Default re: KTM Duke 390 - 375cc, 45 PS, 150 kg

I have felt that rear wheel grip is not all that good on duke, maybe chassis is so good i am pushing it too much. there is one turn 90* on my office route which i take fast around at 80kmph. and once bike did a power slide when i opened the throttle, i was shit scared but i didnt felt like losing control or anything. It was on proper tarmac, no sand, debris etc on the road. But after that i am little too worried when taking corners

PS: its always empty and i can see the whole stretch. By any imagination its not reckless riding

I think that could happen on any bike, power out of a corner after the weight has shifted to the front and the rear will slide out even on pure tarmac.

Happens on my slower, heavier and lesser powerful 220 as well

Just a lot of speculation, sprinkled with some already known facts.
The person is simply trying to grab Google's attention by using words people would mostly use when searching for information regarding the bike(top speed, colors etc).

Also that image is a rendering made by motorbeam; and looks absolutely horrifying.
And from what I've seen, the Ninja 300R goes 0-100 in sub 7 seconds; this means that the 390 would easily manage to beat that. How I wish Bajaj would put an end to all this endless speculation..

For me the question is, will the Duke 390 beat the Ninja 300 at the top end. I am pretty sure it will take the Ninja on acceleration from standstill as well as roll ons.

Going by how the 200 is limited to 135-138.

I don't think the 390 would do more than 160ish at the max 170, and I just shudder to think about the wind blast at those speeds!

People are reporting topspeeds of anywhere from 180-192 Kmph for the 300.

The Duke 690 does a shade over 200 without any sort of streamlining as well.

I think we had this top end discussion on this very thread awhile back.

We would all love a 180, but in reality, we would probably be left feeling a little cheated with a 170.

In all honesty, I think the top end is a bit exaggerated. It is nice to discuss that a certain bike tops at 187MPH, but where do you do that?

On very few occasions, one can manage a sustained 150+ and after few grey hairs (happened a bit early, have just entered my 30's :P) I think anything over 120 isn't safe.

And this is me. You are free to differ

KTM would have a mind blowing acceleration & so would be that 300R. And hope the launch is soon

(I know most of the guys here share my POV, but thought to chip in)

KTM 390 Duke with ABS coming this June.

Quote:
A significant feature on the 390 Duke for India will be the inclusion of Bosch’s 9M ABS option. The sensors at the front and rear wheels will be connected to an independent ECU for the ABS function, that also monitor engine torque to optimise braking

The bike will probably be revealed to the public on display on the 10th of next month. But the actual bike in terms of deliveries on road would be at least another 3 months away.

Can't wait to see/hear the pricing on this bike. Hopefully I should have it in my garage by end of this year!

I wish the Ninja 300 twin came in at a reasonable premium over the KTM 390 single.

In terms of size it is a more substantial bike than the 390 and would be a serious contender for my next bike had it not been priced so steep (close to 4 lacs on road).

But yes, that said, I am really looking forward to riding the 390 soon as well. It promises to be a moving experience!

I guess it's a toss up between the two bikes for your next bike, huh? The N300 will be a smoother running bike (twin cylinder) than the KTM390. While the D 390 may just pip the N 300 to the ton mark (pure guesstimate), the Ninja will almost certainly have higher top speed. It will also grab more eyeballs being half a size bigger with a lot more visual bulk to boot. Thus, it looks more superbike-ish than the D 390.

Though I am generally happy about the Metzeler tyres and ABS news, I still feel very short charged in terms of the way the bike looks. It just looks very very small for the engine capacity. Tiny miny! I would've definitely preferred a more visually substantial looking bike.

On the other hand, to me, the N 300's value proposition is simply poor. You don't get enough bike for the price you pay, simply because it's a CKD. If I am spending close to 4 lacs, I'd rather spend a couple more and get the Ducati Monster/Triumph ST 675, HD Superlow/Iron type bikes. To me, the real action of sports bikes starts from 6 lacs.

Actually no. I am lusting after the Ninja 300 unabashedly, but as a father of three, I will err on the side of reason and suppress my lust. The Duke 390 I really do not know I will buy outright. Yes you are right, the 390 coming exactly same as the 200 visually and physically measurement wise is a bit of a downer for me as well. I guess if you are a big guy like me, its even more of a downer. I am guessing all those downers and logic will get blasted away the first real pull through the gears, but till that happens, I guess we are on the same page.
