You guys think the delay is because of them wanting to build a pipeline of bikes to keep waiting periods low?

Maybe KTM wants to do a simultaneous global launch across all 76 countries!

Could be. By the way, liked your posts on loneliest roads in the South...those are some must do roads on two wheels!

Let's not forget the 350/375 Pulsar that will follow. Bajaj would certainly price the D390 keeping in mind what they will want to price the Pulsar 3xx at too.

1. Available & Economical - the same reason you see cabbies running Indicas and Logans. Renting out is a business.

2. Nostalgia - they are tourists, and the Bullet fits in with their perception of India. Noisy, inefficient, slow.

People tour all around the world, usually longer distances than what you've mentioned - they dont buy Enfield Bullets for that purpose.

FYI, the same logic was used by people to justify the Ambassador's existence before Indica/Logan taxis.

I got a call today morning from KTM Kanjurmarg (Mumbai) informing that the bookings for the 390 are officially open.
Since I was in a meeting couldn't quiz her about the Price or the Launch date.

In fact the TD Vehicle is also not available.

Any one else getting such calls? please check the Price and launch dates.

I called the KTM showroom in Indiranagar, Blore and they have no price list as yet. They are only calling people who showed interest in the bike earlier.

I left my number with them and asked them to let me know when test rides are available.

There is no radiator shield on the bike. Though, one can make an easy fitment of it from any machining shop. But still. Has to be a damn bloody good job to make it look good.

And here's another stonking review from an aussie site: http://www.mcnews.com.au/Testing/KTM...390_Review.htm

Brought a chuckle to my face reading this bit -

Quote:
The savings that have enabled KTM to enter this new low-price area of the market come from shifting production of the small Duke range to India via 47 per cent stakeholder Bajaj Auto. A massive powerhouse of a company that is teaching KTM a thing or two about production techniques, quality control and is helping to bring KTMís flair for design and performance to the masses. The 390 Duke will be the first KTM model sold across their entire 76-country market.
This after owning a Bajaj for almost 6 years now (so I'm well aware of Bajaj "quality")

That's weird, the lady clearly mentioned that bookings have started and I can come down for the same.

I asked if I can TD and she said the display vehicle is not here yet.

I got a call from them today saying that I can come down to book the vehicle. Booking amt. Rs.20000. Expected price below 2.5 lakhs!
When I asked abt TD. They said that they would revert regarding the same in a few days!

Note from Support - Please avoid submitting dotty posts (like: abcd... wxyz....) as it makes for a difficult read.

Does anyone have more concrete information on the compression ratio of the 390? I've read values ranging from 12.5 upto 12.9. Also, any idea on what octane fuel this range would require in general?

Well, this bike is launching in India and considering the quality of fuel and the limited access to high octane gasoline, i can safely say that the engine would be tuned to run on regular unleaded gasoline, which is 91 octane in almost all Indian cities which sell BS III and IV spec fuel.

Was at the pro-biking showroom in Mysore last weekend and was informed that the booking amount is 40,000 . They aint taking bookings as of now and the Sales manager said some time in June is when they would start taking bookings.

The wait is killing me and the 390 has really started to grow on me after seeing all those videos and pictures from the www.
