Better late than never. KTMs are probably the best import bikes suited for our unpredictable terrain (yes, the roads qualify as terrain too) - their off-road legacy will hopefully mean that you can ride without fear of damage.

Thanks for the info man. I was planning to stop at the new KTM dealership that opened up in Jubilee hills, Hyderabad, for the past one week but never got the time.

I am kind of waiting for all the wrong vehicles , KTM 390 ( since jan), Any Color other than black for TB500 again January, RE500 Carb (not launched in Hyderabad and dealers are clueless), Gurkha (Somehow I love the way it looks except the front bumper and 4x4 uncertain deliveries), Ecosport (Ford is finally launching it. Just waiting to TD this before finailizing a Vento)

One Bike and One Car are absolute necessity. So the wait is kind of killing

Nope. Posters, banners and brochures announcing the launch have already reached showrooms. Launch is VERY close.

They have started accepting booking amounts at the Bajaj ProBiking showroom at Pune - next to Ruby Hall.
You can pay as less as 1k for the booking, the bike is expected to be launched at this month end or latest by the first week of June. Pricing is to be between 2 & 2.5 lakhs INR.
The good lady at the reception will email the brochure, will try & post it up as soon as I receive it.

^^ update to my above post.

Confirmed that the bike will be launched before the end of the month. I saw the brochure. Dealer informed me that they have placed order for 30 bikes and they are in Pune Stockyard. Expected on road price in Hyderabad is around Rs 2.5 lakhs. (200 price is Rs 1.5 lakhs) There will be only one color as of now with Orange Wheels. Same Color scheme as this link

Called up both the showrooms in indiranagar and btm layout bangalore. they said they are not currently accepting any booking and also they have no confirmed news about the launch dates.
If i'm right the duke 200 was initially launched and then later the prices were announced and after a month or so the deliveries of the bikes started.
May be we can expect the same with the 390 also.

One important question. How much can we really fill in the puny 10.2 liter tank (saw this in the brochure). What will be the range before a refill is needed. While reading the baby duke thread I was really surprised to hear about overflow with full tank. Normally I tend to do full tank on all my vehicles (Bike/Car). If the net range is only 180 km, (assuming 390 gives around 25kmpl and 7 liters usable fuel) a bigger tank is a necessity. Anyone here has a clue if KTM will give bigger tank as an optional upgrade during launch.

Can anything be done with the pillion seat. In majority of the cases someone or other will be riding with me. How comfortable is the stock seat for women in Saree

Does the chain need to be lubricated every 500 km. I feel that it is too short an interval. Any way to stretch this to match the service intervals. do u guys lubricate at home or take it to service center. If we plan on touring this is an irritant.

Further any idea if the issues identified in the Duke 200 will be rectified in the 390. Like stalling at low rpm's, condesation, better light , fender hitting, horn, etc.

I may be picking up one the day it is available for sale, hence all these questions.

The tank range should be around 200-230kms. And yes there is a power part from KTM for a bigger tank. But i think it is priced very high.

Seat can be modified and I think fellow bhp'ian black12rr has already modified his pillion seat (not very sure of this though). Women in Saree - Take them for the test ride of the 200. If they are not complaining, they wont complain on the 390 too!!

Dry season - Upto around 800kms is fine
Rain, mud, slush - The moment you sense the dryness in the chain even if it is after every rain ride (be it 100kms or 300kms).
Yes since there is no center stand, it can be difficult to do it while touring if you are solo. The above is not specific to Duke though.

Was fortunate to have a test ride of the 390 duke yesterday. The bike is an absolute blast, this is coming from a person who was first addicted to the CB400 & then the Ninja 650r.
Completely rowdy bike, throaty exhaust, the power to weight ratio just blows you off, literally. I was hanging onto the handle bars with my life as I did not expect the explosive pickup.

That feels like a wonderful experience man. How long and where did you get the test drive. Does the bike feel larger than the 200. Dealer here mentioned it may be larger but it think it must be same.
