I took delivery of D200 for my brother last year.
since then have been constantly following the D390 story.
went ahead and booked my D390 in the last week of April - though they were not accepting the booking, the guy was happy enough to oblige as this was more or less a repeat buy. Have been following up with him since then on the launch.
Finally i got some news out yesterday -
Training for Dealers done. Launch planned on 25th June. ABS standard, No color options - only 1 combination available. Orange alloys (subjective) standard.
Delivery for my bike around a week post the launch (so - 1st week July).

Didnt have time to chat with him yesterday, so didnt find out about the other goodies on offer and how the drive in the training was and importantly what is the expected ex-show.
Will "find" time today and update.

Further, the bike comes with-

Metzeler rubber confirmed
Akrapovic exhaust
ABS off switch
Orange Rims (refer last post)
Bosch fuel injection system - 2 injectors

Ex showroom - 2,00,000 INR

that's all the sales guy could confirm..

I am surprised they would offer Akrapovic exhaust as standard! that alone would jack up the price by about 30k

Folks, 25th June does seem very likely.

Despite my fears, I just got a mail from the Langford dealer asking for details (see below). So, imminent ... :-)

Mebbe one has a chance of snaring a bike faster if one pays cash?

Greetings from KTM - Central Bangalore,

As we wait with bated breath for the launch of the mighty 390, we would request you to help us in serving you better when the bike launches. Kindly reply to this email with answers to the following questions:

(1) Name and Mobile Number
(2) Do you plan to purchase with Cash or Financing?
(3) Do you have a vehicle for exchange? If yes, please specify the model (eg. Pulsar 200 NS)
(4) When you plan to purchase the KTM 390 Duke?
(a) At the time of release
(b) Within the next 3 months
(c) Beyond 3 months

As always, we take great pleasure in serving you. Hope to see you soon!

So finally it feels like we are not very far from the launch.
On a slightly different note, which showroom in Bangalore would be advised to book the bike from? Based on their functionality, customer care, fairness, politeness, services, communications, finance etc. Duke 200 owners may be able to shed some light based on their prior experience. For me, Indiranagar pro-biking showroom is closest, second would be BTM layout.

The sari guard is missing, as i guess it mandatory by arai to have one for indian bikes.

Such a silence? That's a big PS error by them.

Edit: its a KTM factory one but I think an extra.

Akrapovic exhaust as stock? On a 2-2.5lac bike?
The 690 gets that though. Maybe this too is coming?

CBR500 VS Ninja 300 VS KTM 390 (quick opinion video)

Summary:
Bad weather riding: CBR
Most fun: KTM
Decent but will grow out of it soon: Ninja

I am really concerned about a 2-up riding position on the 390. I wanna set up saddle bags, my girl, and go touring up into the hills. Even with a few modifications, is this even possible?

I will be damned if it isn't.

Since the 390 shares the same body as the 200 - No. The pillion seat is a punishment to put it mildly and long distance travel that too with saddle bags would be an immense challenge. Unless both of you are very slightly built. Or you swap the rear seat for some custom made wide seat- never seen one though.

Hey Red!
People tour two up on the duke 200.
but no, it's not the best choice. plus, it really depends on how both of you are built. Ask yourself how often and how far you will tour with your girl. If it is a once in a year affair (which usually is the case, especially once married, even though you would like it to be more often) : Buy the 390 and rent an enfield classic from the good folks at Indimotard when you want to tour 2 up.
But if your sole purpose is 2up touring regularly, then this may not be the bike for you. Think again.

Thanks guys. There is definitely two person touring coming up. Not a fan of the bullets.

I was thinking of setting something like this up on the rear (expandable rack bag with saddle bags - as you can see), and have a tank bag up front. And therefore have enough space for me and pillion.

And I'm definitely thinking of getting a wider seat installed. If only the enduro version was launched now, we wouldn't be having these conversations.

Ofcourse the only other bike that comes close is prolly the ceeber 400/500 series. They'll be a heck of a lot more expensive though and about half as fun.
