I believe its because the colour of the 390's tank is white, and it blends with the background, making it look smaller (since your eye only catches the black bits).

Checkout the following links for the latest updates on the 390.

Disappointed with the fact that it looks more or less like the 200.

re: KTM Duke 390 - 375cc, 45 PS, 150 kg

The lack of a bigger fuel tank is a serious downer.

Everything else is pretty true to form from what I had reported earlier.

In addition to the fuel tank, the other feedback/improvement areas for the 390 are the rear, front, and monshock mudguard designs which need to be tweaked.

I was pretty sure I'd be picking up the 390 whenever it was launched a replacement to my aging bike. But the 11 Ltr tank is kindda a big downer for me, I need something with at least a 300 Km range! Doubt if this would do more than 200 kms at a stretch!

So now kindda in the middle of no where again where there isn't a suitable bike to upgrade too.

Also skeptical about how the tyres are going to handle the onslaught of 43 Austrian ponies, 25 of them were overwhelming enough. Hope that Bajaj launches the 390 with Metzelers in India.

Ride one to believe. Those drums are pretty good, and as long as you stick to the original tyres (hard to find, but still available) or upgraded to something sensible it still will stop on a dime.

But this KTM seems like a worthy move up from the mad RD, even if the RD's two-stroke scream still makes your spine tingle.

I get like 250kms or there off when I ride hard (who rides slowly when on long rides!) . With 44 bhp ,it will be even worse .

re: KTM Duke 390 - 375cc, 45 PS, 150 kg

Yeah the tank range is an issue. Will probably need to look around for an after market tank that fits. The tank of the 200 is so small under the outer shroud its easily possible to make it bigger. Wonder why they do not?

I doubt this bike will have a range of more than 200 kms when ridden hard. That's really a pain having to stop every 200 kms to tank up. Not to mention those times and places where you cannot .....

re: KTM Duke 390 - 375cc, 45 PS, 150 kg

Did my bit, sent a request for a extended tank power part

http://company.ktm.com/gb/service/contact.html

Hopefully someone at product development gets the hint and does something about it.

Doubt if it will work, but if enough of us ask for it atleast someone will take notice.

Same dimensions? No visible markers apart from stickers (pronouncing it 390) and orange frame. :(
11 Ltrs fuel tank??
Man... I thought the new one from KTM would be bigger and better at least for pillion rider. Looks like we need to wait for Pulsar that clones this one for some demarcation from 200NS.

What say buddy? Liked the 390?

To me, its a bit of a mixed bag. The star of the package is obviously the engine. I have no doubt in mind that it will be a quick revving, super fast engine with a little bit in it for everybody. I like the new paint scheme as well (din't like it initially but its kind of grown on me). And despite its diminutive looks, I still like the way it looks (have always liked the Duke styling). The U.K pricing for the two Dukes (200 and 390) is very close, does that mean that in India too the bikes may be separated by only a few thousands (say 30k or so)?

On the down side, it looks exactly the same as 200. That is a big dampener. Somebody who has spent 2/3 rd price will ride a similar looking bike to the one that I will have. Not cool. And since it is basically a 200 (outer shell), it is still very small bike. Looks a little too small for a 375 cc machine.

Still not able to decide whether I like the Orange paint scheme that some of the Milan show bikes had. I think black is better (I am not sure we'll be offered the Orange wheels anyway!)

For somebody like me who is looking to get into the scene after 15 years away from biking this seems like an awesome way to get back into riding for pleasure!

Please don't leave out ABS and Metzeler tires for India though.

On the other hand I am also hoping Triumph gets it act together very soon cause I have my eyes on the street triple too

re: KTM Duke 390 - 375cc, 45 PS, 150 kg

I am ok with the size bro. See a Duke 690 in the flesh - its hardly slightly bigger.

I really wish the tank were bigger though.

Or they offered loyal KTM Duke customers an engine upgrade (we'll take care of the "strengthened" chassis/suspension bit).

I love the orange. That's KTM.

Or offer us the white and black version of the 690 - that's really yummy.

My extended family on the maternal side have had 3 RDs and 3 near-fatal accidents. (Thanks to Fog + Level Railway crossing / cattle / unscientific speed breaker) So at least in my extended family, the *almost a fatality* rate is 100%.
Well, if one goes by anecdotal 'evidence' mine says that if anything, serious accident rates were less than on other bikes (esp the RX). Perhaps because in my time RD were too expensive to be a college kids ride.

I don't know when your time was bro, but in the early 90s, the RD was a pretty common college kid ride in Pune, and especially with the Iranis.

My worst accident to date was also on one. You had to respect that bike. And no, its brakes were not that great. Yes they were good by drum standards, but that's all they were. Very good drums, and 30+ bhp of two stroke twin power - on 3.50 x 18 MRF Nylogrips.
