Default Scoop! Mahindra's New Bike, the Pantero

Autocar has come out with a scoop on Mahindra's new bike, Pantero. This name also ends with the alphabet O.

captured a revised Mahindra Stallio commuter motorcycle, testing on the Pune-Ahmednagar highway, in what is clearly near ready-for-production stage. The Stallio is shortly to be re-launched, tipped by our sources as making its comeback with the new name, Pantero.

The Pantero will sport a front fascia, headlight and styling that is visibly similar to the original bike, while an LED-powered, integrated taillight is also seen. The original Stallio deployed a four-stroke, 106.7cc, single-cylinder and air-cooled engine, this mated to a four-speed gearbox. Maximum power output was 7.3bhp at 7500rpm, and peak torque, 0.8kgm at 5500rpm.

The Pantero will use telescopic fork front suspension and a set of hydraulic rear shock absorbers with colourful springs at rear. Drum brakes are standard front and rear.

Mahindra has delayed re-launching this commuter motorcycle over the past few months, but the Pantero is now set for a launch in January 2013, along with other new Mahindra motorcycles.

Is it just me or front resembles Yamaha FZ-S and the rear a passion pro? Overall, I don't find it to have any special design cue and the brake lever seems to be hanging. Which sector of market are they targetting with this? Basic commuter one? It could give a good match to Splendor if it's so but if it's placed in Stunner, P135 category, then it's toast!

Keep revvin'

That rider in the picture is wearing sandles and no gloves? Clearly shows the rider is immature, the design is ugly, looks Chinese product!

No wonder. Mahindra doesn't have a two wheeler DNA and thier products are all mix and match ones.

Pantero, funtero, tuntero, zero, ro ro... This is crazy!

Wish Mahindra spends some quality time in really deciding if it wants to enter the ultra competitive two wheeler market than dig into books to come up with names ending with a 'o'.

Where is the 'Mojo'????

The guys are hired to go around and ride the bikes for specific km so that the data can be logged so thats just and average guy riding the bike, nothing wrong in that. The Stallio was Chinese to begin with and the Pantero is pretty much the same but this time hopefully without the jaw dropping problems.

Difficult to beleive, this is from the makers of the XUV5OO, which is drop-dead gorgeous IMHO.

This mobike looks like a close iffy cousin to the Apache. Only positive highlight are the beefy tires.

If this is the Pantero being launched by Mahindra, then it really needs an exceptional heart else the looks won't make it sell. The front is as if was sliced by a knife, and rear tail was carved by the same knife. With Bajaj and Honda revolutionizing commuter bike designs, Mahindra cannot afford to go wrong with looks. I am very skeptical about Pantero's success in this avatar.

I agree with 'justwheels'. Wonder what happened with Mahindra's launch of 'Mojo'. Sounds and looks better than Panter a/o.
