Awesome Stuff Sir. Threads like these really do reignite the passion and also prove that you can do whatever you wish whenever you want to.

This thread and the other Duke thread is giving me a tough time. Feel like getting a bike again. I had a CBZ for 7 years but then i sold it as i brought my first car and was always driving.

Heart was going after either a TBird or a CBR250 however now the Duke might also be in the scheme i think.

Looking to get something by the end of this year. Looking to get into the Weekend Biking Mode of Life.

Ride Safe.

Cheers.

Here are pics of tracks close to my home where I practice off roading on stock Duke tyres.

I can tell you that stock tyres of the Duke are good enough for off roading in Ladakh.

Cheers.

Compliments accepted, with utmost humility. Stock Duke tyres are enough for dry season in Ladakh.

Hats off to you sir! It is very motivating to see a man of your age has not lost his passion for riding. Heck, you do stuff with your bike that I haven't even thought of attempting

And both my thumbs up for choosing the Duke 200, IMO it is the most able dual purpose bike available for it's price

Wish you many more miles of happy and safe riding

Cheers

Beautifully written. Written straight from the heart. Wish you a happy and safe riding. I think DUKE can be a good tourer too but this is one bike that I couldn't lay my hands on.

All the very best again

RIDE # 3 WITH THE DUKES OF PUNE 21 APRIL 2013

21 April 2013. The Duke of Dukes made a ride plan as follows:
Pune Amanora> Warje Bridge > Kudje>Panshet> Sinhagad> Pune.
Distance for me 103 kms.

PRELUDE:

The day before, I had washed the Duke, greased the chain with MOTUL cleaner and oil. I felt good at this DIY.

SUNDAY MORNING

I was at NAL STOP at 6 AM. DOD said he will start from his home now. I was like why oh why? That was HIS TIME for R/V at Nal Stop.

Next time I will make him wait for me at Panshet!

YOGA GURU had suggested that I meet home at some place at Lulla Nagar.
I asked “Who is Lulla”? I mean like Karve Nagar is Mr. Karve, a great hero of Pune City. YOG GURU said “I don’t know who Lulla is.”
Then why call me to Lulla?

YOGA GURU

CIRCUS my Wing Man came followed by DoD. He asked us to park our DUKES at Warje Bridge.

WARJE BRIDGE

Down the nice Karve Road (Maharishi Karve, who lived at Pune, died AFTER living for 104 years, built Old Widows Shelter) we parked our asses at the Bridge. Tea, some introductions.

PROTECTION

I had knee guards, technically I was well protected. But since I am joining ship, I did not want to risk injuries and held back 20 % in speeds. Even on well carpeted roads from Panshet to Pune City.

MY NEW SHIN GUARDS

Notwithstanding that, the Duke of Dukes complimented me that I had improved my riding skills rapidly. Thank you Dukes of Pune.

DOD came double seat with a nice lady MASTANI. They were colleagues at a Company many years ago. She is now a top honcho at Tech giant company now.

LADY MASTANI

KTM Duke 200 - Initial Ownership Report-nice-mastani.jpg

Some years ago I had met her husband and her on a ride and visited her home. She was professionally dressed for the ride.

KTM Duke 200 - Initial Ownership Report-mastani-legs.jpg

ROUTE

This route was not new to me. I took off and we halted at some nice place off Kudje. Splendor Country? Some time share resort gone bust.
But my wing man CIRCUS deserted me. DOD ensured there was a tail for me.

MID HALT

The DOD halted off the Khadakvasala lake enroute to Panshet. I never resist a swim in water. I quickly stripped in record time, asked MASTANI to look the other way.

KTM Duke 200 - Initial Ownership Report-stripped.jpg

I wore my KTM tee shirt that was gifted to me by Bajaj. I was in white VIP underwear, yes VIP, and slipped in the cool waters of the Lake.

DO SHARKS GET PNEUMONIA?

When I was done with the lake swimming, I wore my riding jacket over the wet KTM Tee shirt.

DOD looked worried and said “Pneumonia ho jayee gaa”

I have has been sailing the high seas last 42 years, swimming since age 4, Scuba Dived with SHARKS for 6 years in the Coral Reefs of Andaman, Lakshadweep and Maldives.

Do sharks suffer pneumonia?

BREAKFAST HALT

Nice place, nice food, nice static bike photography.

DOD INTENSITY

KTM Duke 200 - Initial Ownership Report-duke-dukes.jpg

Was nice to catch up again with CHIKNA. Thanks for the Lake side picture!

CHIKNA

KTM Duke 200 - Initial Ownership Report-chikna-upload.jpg
Boring.

DOD, let’s shoot Pan Shots!!

There were some new Dukers around. Nice people. I will leave them alone before insulting them till I get to know them better.

Missed ANNA a lot.

I was really happy to see SHENDYA on the saddle.

KTM Duke 200 - Initial Ownership Report-shendya.jpg

ALL DONE

After breakfast, I left the DOP and headed to Pune skirting the Khadakvasala Lake, Sinhagad. DOD sent a tail for me a test rider at Bajaj?
I arrived home on half empty roads being Sunday through Pune City.

At the Ghorpuri Railway crossing a kid came up to me and asked “Aap racing karte ho?’ I replied with a smile. “Kidhar jaate ho racing ke liye?”

I said “Dooooooor jata hoon pahad ke upar.

”The Railway Level crossing gates opened and I zipped past the kid. I looked at the RVM. The kid was smiling! And that one minute with this kid MADE MY DAY.

Sweet dreams for the kid to get a bike like the Duke and ride up the mountains.

I like smiling kids.

HOME IS AMNORA PARK TOWN

I parked the Duke in the basement.

Odo showed 103 kms. RESET that.

My wife had sent an SMS “Teddy Bear, chilled beer and fish ready for you. “

I took the high speed lift to 06-1802.

NEXT RIDE: LADAKH WITH HER as my pillion and Navigator.

The Duke is 200 cc but behaves like a 2 stroke bike = 400 cc

Now here are some tips to prevent accidents on high speed bikes. Most by Navendu Singh my guru, a few from me. We at Dukes of Pune have some casualties.

1. Surrender your EGO. Ride at SAFE SPEEDS. We are not MOTO GP riders. Start ride with group prayer.
2. Start bike, take a round and see all ok. Check all switches for functionality.
3. First 5 and last 5 kms ride very slow. Practice steering counter steering, imagine emergencies and down shift quick, use 60 % front brakes first and 40 % rear. Initiate breaking with front brakes.
4. Ride left of center of road, watch RVM regularly.
5. Give wide berth to buses, SUVs, strange vehicles, kids, ladies, pedestrians, non powered vehicles like hand carts etc.
6. Speed in traffic, ride with the flow of traffic. Look for the invisible man, the invisible auto or anything. Watch for BLIND ARCS.
7. NEVER overtake from left.
8.In highways, if there are cuts, be careful, some strange veh will cut in. Most buses trailers will never indicate and turn suddenly and fry you else kill you.
9. Always use indicators to suggest u going left or right. Hand signals avoid.
10.Keep safety margin in speeds and power of 20 % up your sleeve.

Remember there is a wife, a mother, a son/daughter, father back home. Full riding gear at all times are cheaper than Hospital bills.

Amen.
