Default 2013 Vespa VX125: What's New?

Link to News Section

Piaggio India has just unveiled a new variant of its only two wheeled offering in the Indian two wheeler market, in the form of the Vespa VX125 automatic scooter. The new VX125 variant of the Vespa automatic scooter will sit above the LX125 model in terms of price and positioning. While the price of the Vespa VX125 is yet to be announced, the new set of features on the automatic scooter reflects what's available on the international-spec Vespa LX125.

Here's a round up,
  • A 200mm front disc brake has been added
  • Black seat cover has been replaced with a beige item (optional equipment)
  • The instrumentation console has seen a refresh
  • MRF NyloGrip Zapper tubeless tyres are now standard items
  • Pink and Blue colours are added to the Vespa range
  • Black and Maroon colours have been discontinued
  • The chromed grab rail at the rear gets longer

Piaggio will announce prices of the Vespa VX125 automatic scooter later this month. Piaggio India is open to making the VX125 the standard variant of the 125cc automatic scooter if demand necessitates such a move. Many of the changes incorporated on the Vespa through the VX125 variant reflect those that the lifestyle scooter buyer has wanted on this scooter right from word go. If Piaggio India manages to offer these features at no increase in price, perhaps citing higher localization levels, the scooter will be a decent option for value seeking buyers.

The scooter's 125cc-3 valve four stroke engine, outputting 10.06 Bhp-10.8 Nm remains unchanged and so does the CVT automatic transmission. The scooter also retains its monocoque steel construction, a factor that endows the Vespa with a solid build, free from rattles. All said, it remains to be seen whether Piaggio India realizes that value conscious Indian buyer, though allured by the scooter's retro looks, is shying away from the scooter mainly due to the pricing.

If the disc brake is a direct mount, it shouldn't cost more than 3-4 thousand rupees. However, if a foundation plate or something needs to be used to mount the disc brake, it will cost quite a bit.

Cheers,

Jay

Thank god the watch stays in Instrumentation Panel, though I fail to understand why can we not have programmable LCD (even monochrome panels) in this day. Gimme some customisation options already. I guess 1 scooter has it, and a cigarette lighter outlet like the TVS ones.

But why did you discontinue the black colour and the beige seat cover will get dirty before you have it home, not to say it will look tacky.

Now seemingly white is the only option left! Or are they continuing limited production of LX model?

I am also keen to install the disc brake on my vehicle. I got mine last month itself. Also, in line are the tires.

Today i had my 1 year servicing done and while my Wasp was attended to, i too a deep dive into VX Model.
It comes with :
1. Disc Brake
2. New Speedo cluster (just an alternative colour change)
3. New rear grab rail design.
4. VX Monogram on the left side
5. Tubeless Tyres

Two new colours added..one horrible pink and a formidable fern green.
Pics below.

For all of LX owners, a disc brake upgrade is possible at 10k fixed price. Vespa India does it now. Im planning to get it done during next servicing.

When i inquired in the showroom today i was told that they haven't received the price till now. Moreover the price of the current model (without disc brake) will be increased a bit. Expect Vespa 946 by July 2014 in the price range of 1.5L.

Thumbs up Piaggio Vespa VX125 officially launched; Price: Rs.71,380 ex-showroom Delhi

Link to News Section

After showcasing the new variant of the Vespa 125cc automatic scooter a few weeks ago, Piaggio India has officially launched the VX125. The scooter is priced at 71,380 rupees, ex-showroom New Delhi. At that price level, the Vespa VX125 is about 10,000 rupees pricier than its LX125 sibling, which carries an ex-showroom price tag of about 61,000 rupees.

Earlier this year, Piaggio India reduced the price of the Vespa LX125 by nearly 7,000 rupees citing higher localization levels. From the pricing of the Vespa VX125 variant, it is clear that Piaggio India has chosen to retain the premium, lifestyle positioning of this automatic scooter. Notably, the Vespa variants are the only scooters in India to be positioned in the lifestyle category.

Earlier rumours suggested that the Vespa VX125 would be priced just about 3,000 rupees over the LX125 version. From the official prices released by Piaggio, it's clear that the price rise is much more substantial. For the additional 10,000 odd rupees, you get the following features on the Vespa VX125 model,
  • 200mm front disc brake
  • Longer pillion grab rail
  • Revised colour scheme for the instrumentation console
  • MRF Zapper tubeless tyres
  • Two new colours to choose from: Metallic Green and Vibrant Rosa (a kind of two tone pink)
  • Optional Beige colour seat cover
The Vespa VX125 retains the 125cc-3 valve four stroke engine that outputs 10 Bhp and 10.6 Nm. This engine is mated to a CVT automatic transmission. The scooter comes with a monocoque steel body, a feature that makes it unique in its class. On the suspension front, a unit link layout up front and the monoshock unit at the rear are carried over from the LX125 model.

Piaggio's official line for not jumping onto the telescopic front forks brigade is that the company wants to retain the retro looks of the Vespa. Piaggio India has discontinued the Black and Maroon shades of the scooter owing to low demand for these colours. The new VX125 version of the automatic scooter will be sold across all Vespa India dealerships.

10K for front disc and a after-market tubeless tyres turn LX to VX. Was the earlier rear grab handle inconvenient to use?

After being restive for long, I finally bought a Giallo Lime (Yellow) LX 125 yesterday!

Incidentally, I bought the scooter sans accessories barring the rear numberplate(!) and floormat, which I purchased today.

I was told at the showroom that I was lucky to have purchased it yesterday as the price has shot up from today onwards, the on-road price being 75k (sans accessories)?!! Can anyone confirm if this is true?

Apart from eye candy looks, how does this compare with, say, the Honda Aviator which offers similar features?

Aviator/Activa can't be compared directly, as they are 110cc and this is 125cc. This 15cc difference makes up quite a bit in power. The power difference between Aviator and Access is clearly visible to the rider, similar should be the case with Vespa.

Visually Aviator has a bigger appearance and much upright stance. I have Aviator with disc brakes, and it's good that Vespa too has now got it.

Access/swish can be compared to this Vespa, and I think both the twins are definitely not near 75k, so price difference is big.

Vespa will attract the persons who like bullets, jawani ke din suhane types. Also I see a lot of college girls/guys riding this, riding the retro wave. Access/swish is good too in lesser budget, but my access hasn't aged well. Aviator on the other hand is just as peppy and fresh as ever.

If for fairer sex or shorter men, Aviator can be bit too much to handle. For them, Access/Swish/Vespa can be considered. However, no matter what bike one chooses, it should at least have front shock absorbers, and not like activa/scooty.

^^From what I see in the pics, this does not seem to have telescopic shocks in front either.

They should have changed the digital clock which totally looks out of place, analog one would have complemented the retro look!
