On this topic of Cracked rims.

I was under the assumption the Duke 390 structurally shared everything with the Duke 200 (apart from the powertrain & ABS). therefore even the rims should have been made of the same alloy.

I am again assuming that there have been no such cases of these on the Duke 200 that come studded with MRF rubber.

If the alloys are similar, then the issue might be with the rubber. The metzelers might be too soft for our potholed roads. The sidewalls on the metzelers are not strengthened to take the Indian abuse.

If the alloy has been changed, then KTM/Bajaj have not cut cost. They most probably have tried to better the product for what its intended to do, improve flickability. The draw back is, its not meant for potholed Indian roads.

there are two things KTM can do. change alloys or the rubber to the ones available on duke 200. This would compromise the fun factor of the Duke 390.

But this is not a motorcycle to go joyriding on some boulder half the size of a football or try dirt maniac tricks on the potholes and expect it to take the abuse.

Changing to MRF Revz is not an option. Its been tried. The rubber cannot take more than 70% of what the 390 can put down on the road, and even after that, the Revz get eaten alive within 5+ K kms max.

Then we have to change our riding habits.

WOT only during the day when you can see whats ahead atleast by 200 meters,

During evenings or night give up your temptation, reduce your speed, leave a substantial gap between yourself and the vehicle ahead.. Avoid running over potholes & boulders.

Its a great vehicle, built for the world, makes it a world class product. Bajaj/KTM haven't shied away from addressing issues.

No matter how much I crib about the 'issues', I'm sure I'll go and book one as soon as I make enough money

BTW, is there any tyre from Michelin or other manufacturers in 150 size that is slightly more Indian road friendly than the Metzelers? I know the Metzelers are THE tyres for an RC390. But since we in India hardly visit tracks, more road friendly tires will be better IMO.

0-100 at around 5.5 seconds. That insane acceleration means any other tyres are going to last lot lesser.

The METZ will last you around 10K in road friendly riding and thats pretty bad for 10K in this bike is like 6 months

Use Octane 97 only? I think due to very less demand, even the normal Speed from BPCL appears to be scrapped. Where do I get 97 RON fuel?

Might be one from the export batches?

With the Duke 390 not having to stick with 97 octane, I doubt RC will be launched with such a requirement. If yes - that will be a major drawback!
