Default Rumour: 250cc Suzuki Gixxer in the works

Last year, Suzuki launched the Gixxer 155cc naked motorcycle in India. The company followed it up with the launch of the fully-faired Gixxer SF this year. Now, there are rumours that the motorcycle will be given a 250cc engine next year.

According to a media report, Suzuki is working on a bigger engine for the Gixxer. The bike will get a 250cc, single-cylinder engine that will produce 25-28 BHP. The bike will also get a 6-speed transmission.

The Gixxer 250's styling and riding posture will be similar to the Gixxer 155. Other features include disc brakes at the front and rear, a telescopic fork front suspension and a monoshock at the rear.

Rumours suggest that the Gixxer 250 will be on display at the 2016 Auto Expo. The bike is expected to go on sale in India in late 2016. It is likely to be exported as well.

A fully-faired SF version could make it to production later.

Very nice and welcome move by Suzuki. They have a good name in scooter market and they have been trying to establish themselves in the Motorcycles arena too!
Gixxer 150 is a capable machine and 250 sounds promising too - but only if they dare not challenge R25/CBR 250 with this Machine. Don't be overconfident Suzuki, and don't do a pricing mistake like Inazuma!
Gixxer 250, at best, can be considered in the leagues of Karizma - for its single cylinder configuration and for its power output. A price tag in ballpark of 1.25 L ex-showroom can get decent sales figure I believe, personally!

Why shouldn't the Gixxer (semi faired) be priced near the CBR 250? The CBR is no great shakes with respect quality either. Asking the Gixxer 250 for 1.25 lakhs is a little too much. 30-40K more would be ideal and will have sufficient takers.

Is the R25 being priced on par with CBR250? I doubt.

Gixxer SF 150 costs some 90-100k, and it is already competing Karizma in price. Expecting 250 to cost below 1.25 is daydream. I agree, it can and should compete with CBR250 which is a single cylinder motorcycle.

The market is ripe for a relaxed tourer and I think the Gixxer 250, if released can be a viable option for that role. 1.5L would be a fair price if you ask me.

50 percent mark up over the gixxer 155 for the bigger engine, rear disc brakes.

Is the R25 being priced on par with CBR250? I doubt.

1. CBR is a Honda which is fairly established and commends a brand value. Suzuki is yet to do that in 200 cc segment. Also, pricing a gixxer north of 1.5 L would bring it closer to KTM range (for those who compare bhp vs bhp).
2. Just for cubic capacity, CBR 250 cannot be compared to R25!

1. I did not mention below 1.25, did I? Ex showroom tag of 1.25 would make OTR around 1.6 L or so. Would you spend that much for a new Suzuki? Anything more than that brings it in KTM 200 category, a fairly successful bike.

I didn't say on road either. The 150cc version itself is priced Rs.88600 - 90200 ex showroom.

25 bhp 250cc Gixxer sounds brilliant. If priced right there will be a lot of takers. Sources say it will be priced around 1.5 lakhs ex showroom. I think that is a very fair price. Because the fully faired gixxer costs 1 lakh on road, The new Bajaj RS200 costs 1.35lakhs (non abs). Being a Suzuki 250cc 1.5 lakhs is totally fair. If they want to make it even cheaper, they have to ditch EFI or make it air cooled (Though I haven't heard anything about its fuel system and cooling system, I am making a wild guess that it comes with efi and liquid cooling)

The Suzuki Gixxer 250 supersports motorcycle will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 in February before going on sale in the country in March, reports Bikewale. The yet-to-be-unveiled quarter-litre fully faired motorcycle has been in the news for quite some time now but the details are still speculative.

The new offering is aimed at capitalizing on the strong brand name created by the 155 cc street fighter and fully faired (Gixxer SF) siblings. Expected to be underpinned by a beefed up version of the smaller Gixxer’s single downtube frame, the Gixxer 250 would receive a new swing arm, upgraded suspension system and more upmarket tyres. One can expect Suzuki to offer ABS as an option.

Suzuki Gixxer SF Review-01 side
The Suzuki Gixxer 250 is expected to adopt a beefed up version of the Gixxer SF’s (image) frame.
The engine is expected to be a single-cylinder liquid-cooled unit displacing around 250 cc. Mated to a 6-speed gearbox, the fuel-injected mill is expected to have its power output in the vicinity of 25-30 PS. The fully faired motorcycle would be in direct contention with the likes of Honda CBR250R, KTM RC200 and Bajaj Pulsar RS200.

The Suzuki Gixxer 250 is more likely to adopt an edgy styling which is inspired by the bigger GSX-R models rather than borrow cues from the Gixxer SF. Expect the motorcycle to be priced between INR 1.75 to 2 lakhs (ex-showroom).

And here we have the first pics of the upcoming Suzuki Gixxer 250 !!

Pics are from their R&D centre in Japan, and it is believed to sport a single cylinder, 248cc engine with 25 PS and 22 NM of torque.

Might come with ABS, as per the article at motorbeam! Link to the article -

http://www.motorbeam.com/2015/12/bik...ed-first-time/

The front looks big - but not exactly beautiful in my books

Rumour: 250cc Suzuki Gixxer in the works-suzukigsxr250spiedjapan.jpg

The side looks good, as is the case with many fully faired bikes. However, the steeply raised rear section with the pillion seat being placed so high, Gixxer drops off from my radar... Looks like the R15 V2.0 to me

Rumour: 250cc Suzuki Gixxer in the works-suzukigsxr250spyshot.jpg

The instrument cluster seems like the one from Gixxer 150 - however looks like an LCD unit? ( given its dark background )

But overall, fresh looks and (hopefully) better quality apart, I am not sure what novelty does the Gixxer 250 bring into a segment, where CBR250R with very similar specs is already limping?

I have been following the reviews of the Gixxer SF 150. Every reviewer mentions one disappointment - this bike needs more power and the brilliant chassis begs a lot more!!

I think the 250 cc is the right answer to the enthusiasts. I really hope they equip this bike with ABS too and launch it with a competitive price tag. Honestly, after watching the review os the Gixer SF, my respect has gone up for the Suzuki motorcycles. Awaiting the launch.

I think this would greatly aid during long distance touring, especially with no pillion. Plus, I have a wild thought that the 'couples' are going to prefer something like that; may be Suzuki wants a pie of that.

Motor retains the same 25ps state of tune as the Inazuma. Such a shame for such a sporty looking bike.
