Default New Bajaj commuter motorcycle spotted testing

Bajaj is working on a new commuter motorcycle, a test mule of which has been spied. According to media reports, the new bike is likely to be sold under a new brand name and it will be sold alongside the Discover.

The images of the bike suggest that it could borrow its rear suspension, wheel and rear end design from the Avenger 150 cruiser. However, the front fork and the positioning of the footpegs are more street bike-like. This gives the impression that the bike is not likely to be a pure cruiser or a street bike.

Other features include dual shock absorbers at the rear, a large fuel tank, clear lens indicators, a disc brake at the front, drum brake at the rear and 17-inch and 16-inch alloy wheels at the front and rear respectively. The headlamp has been taken from the Pulsar and is most likely a dummy part.

The motorcycle is reportedly powered by a new or heavily reworked 150cc, single-cylinder engine mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Here are some more images of the motorcycle.

The motorcycle's styling is reported to be a cross between a commuter and cruiser. Parts like the long and bulbous fuel tank, the seat, the rear end and rear suspension are cruiser-like in appearance. On the other hand, the handlebar, front suspension fork and positioning of the foot-pegs are more commuter bike-like.

Other features include alloy wheels, a new chrome-tipped exhaust and clear lens indicators.

The motorcycle is believed to be powered by a 150cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine mated to a 5-speed transmission. This bike is likely to be placed above the Discover in the company's model line-up.

What is the reasoning behind this bike when Bajaj already have Discover 150 and Pulsar 150 in their line-up?

Doesn't like rear grab handle a bit. I hope it doesn't make it to the Production version.

This apparently, is Bajaj's new motorcycle. Its silhouette looks like that of a cafe racer/cruiser. It has been christened Bajaj V. The interesting thing about this bike is that it is made from the scrap of INS Vikrant, an Indian warship that gained fame during the war against Pakistan. I am guessing that this will be a limited edition motorcycle. Bajaj is said to showcase this bike on the 1st of February. Overdrive has posted a promotional video of the same on YouTube.

Bajaj “V” to be unveiled on 1st February 2016

Bajaj has released an official press release for the launch of its new Motorcycle Brand called "Valor" or just "V". The bike is a 150cc one that will sit below the Discover 150. There may be a 125cc offering also coming as part of the "V" range.

From the Press Release:

Quote:
Bajaj Auto will unveil its highly anticipated, new motorcycle brand on Monday, 1st February 2016. This new motorcycle, named “V”,contains the metal of the India’s first and most celebrated aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. The brave legacy of INS Vikrant will now remain alive in lakhs of Indian homes, in the form of “V”.

INS Vikrant was commissioned as the first aircraft carrier of Indian Navy in 1961. After years of distinguished service, she was decommissioned in January 1997 and served as a museum till 2012. In November 2014, India’s most celebrated aircraft carrier was dismantled and sold as scrap metal. Bajaj Auto purchased the Vikrant metal and processed it to be a part of its new brand being unveiled on Feb 1. The new bike will therefore preserve a significant piece of Indian Military history.
