Does it have the same ultra high frequency servicing of 70 days/3k kms characteristic of Yamaha bikes?

No. After the initial 60 days/1000 kms cap, it is at 5000 kms or 6 months cap.

If you really think Yamaha bikes have an "Ultra High Frequency" service intervals hothatchaway, you must check out Benelli's.

During my hunt for the bike, TNT25 was one of the strong contenders as it was right in the range of the D250.

When I enquired about the service intervals, I was informed that it is around every 3-4k Kms or 4-6 months, whichever happens early.

What shooed me away was the bill estimate, which apparently was somewhere between 3-4k!!

I was wondering how is the gearing on the bike, especially since it doesn't have a 6th gear. What is the engine RPM at 100 kmph on the FZ25? I'm hoping it to be at 5k or below so that highway commutes are stress tree.. Can anybody provide some clarity on the gearing?

Thanks. How do I calculate speed with that? i.e. need to know the rpm at a particular riding speed...

Its has been a week and ~200kms now since I bought the FZ25 home. The bike is still in its initial run-in, so as per the manual, keeping the revs below 6k.

What I have observed is that the bike can hit speeds in excess of 90 Km/hr below 6K RPM. So I think the 100 Km/hr must come up at around 6-6.5 k RPM.

Keep in mind that this is a free revving engine and if you push it, it can rev to over 10k RPM, though you would have most likely passed the power band by then.

P.S - Found a vague video of the FZ25 0-60 and 0-100.

Skip to 1:15s for the actual run:

Of course these are not V-box tested numbers, but for the price and mediocre performance figures (on paper), this seems to be quite impressive.

Today morning while commuting to work, I noticed that the fuel bar was blinking. This is an indication of the low fuel, which is pretty obvious.

What was a pleasant surprise was that something new came up on the meter console, which I have never seen before!!

It read:

Trip Km
F 10.3

The value for F kept on increasing constantly until it reached somewhere around 20.3!! I could not get a pic of this, but I will surely share it the next time I get it.

Take my word on this guys, I made doubly sure that this is not one of the trip meters. I could toggle into ODO, Trip 1, Trip 2, Instant FE, Avg FE, Time and the last press of the button would bring up this screen.

My guess is that this pops up when there is low fuel and is probably a DTE (Distance to Empty) indicator.

The thing disappeared as soon as I filled in the fuel, and I am not able to get this back now.

In other news, here is a pictorial comparo of my FZ 25 with one of the quarter litre legends:

P.S - Though I am in love with the refinement and smooth power delivery of my FZ25, I would have had a Red CBR 250R in my garage today if only it was 30-40k cheaper.

Your guess is correct. It is present in Yamaha bikes since R15. F starts to blink when you hit low fuel/reserve and shows the distance you travel in reserve. One may check owner's manual for reserve capacity.

Congrats Vik and Sheel for the purchase of new motorcycle.

Both of you can answer this question for me, is the FZ25 actually bigger in overall size compared to CBR? In the Vik's images it is almost towering over the CBR.

Thank you BANDHAV.

Regarding the size comparison, the bigger tank and the tank extensions actually makes the FZ25 look big in person. What is even more surprising is the fact that it looks even bulkier when you actually sit on the bike.

With CBR 250R, it looks big when viewed from a distance, but when you sit on the saddle the tank feels a size smaller in comparison to the FZ25. The CBR almost engulfs itself around you and feels like an extension of yourself.

I have uploaded some snaps of the size comparison between my bike and Abishek's Ninja 250 as well, and it also makes that Kwacker look small in comparison.

So yes the FZ25 feels much bigger bike than it probably is, but not sure if this is actually quite apparent when viewed side by side its competition.

No. CBR is bigger and it is more apparent when you a swing a leg over it and grab the handlebars.

Hi Sheel / Vik,

Did you searched for a wind screen.

I spoke to showroom folks & they have no clue about availability of a wind screen. At the same time, wrote to shahydari & they are planning to do a adventure cum tourer version of FZ by April end. Afterwards kits will be available as DIY stuff. I liked what they have done to Dominor.
