Have a look at SOL helmets :http://spartanprogear.com/Helmet.asp...5&sc=1&pId=130

they fall into the budget you have mentioned and are known to have very good ventilation (thanks to numerous vents)

DYNAMIC RYDERZ is the dealer for SOL helmets in hyderabad. You can check out the sizes at the store and go for the one which fits you the best!

@Imran - Congrats on the NS. I am sure you are having a blast ripping Hyd streets with your speed demon.

Regarding Sol helmets - Unless you have a perfectly round dome (regardless of size); I really really recommend that you look at something else. I have used this helmet (GM 68S) for over 5k kms and I can tell you that:
- Its very noisy (at anything above 50 kmph)
- Its heavy (Medium weighs in at 1650 gms)
- You have to be in a bit of a tuck for the vents to be doing anything at a high speed (min 80). At slow speeds; you would be hard pressed to tell if there's any ventilation at all. The size of all the vents are real small
- If you have an oval headshape; you will have pressure points on your forehead even after a short ride
- The finish / quality is not quite there

I recommend you go through the following link to get better aquainted with head shapes and other aspects of buying a helmet. Really wish I came across this article before I bought mine:

http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle-helmet-guide

You can also look at Sparx helmets. Should come in your budget I think. If you can up your budget a couple of grand; I suggest you look at Airoh. Recently browsed through a few of them and must say; its a pretty good buy at 8k. Nuvo is another helmet that I liked. Retails for 4 - 5 k

All the best bud

Thanks bro.

I checked out the SOL SF-1. getting it for about 6k. really confused now.
the helmet felt comfortable, more or less like the LS2 did. have you used the SF1?

I have seen the sf1, tried it on (in the store) but have no experience of using it extensively. If you find it comfy and worth the money; by all means go for it

Hope you got to wear the helmet for 10-15 mins. An "on n off" kinda check is not enough. If you have a round head, it should fit you well. Those pressure points can be a pain; literally

To add to the confusion..HJC and Airoh helmets start from the same price range. I got my HJC helmet for 10k after discount and they also had others for 8k.

Not SF1, but I use a SOL SL-68S for last 6+ months and have found it comfortable - my head is round shape, so have not noticed any pressure points. The air flow is very good and the liner absorbs sweat well.

My usual ride speed is 60-80 and have not noticed any wind noise, may be because the helmet is a snug fit. The visor is very good (The manufacturer claims it is optically correct), and offer good visibility with no distortion at night.

Finally bit the bullet and bought myself a SHOEI X12 in Elias II graphics. The helmet is just wow and only when you use it or see it do you really understand why it costs as much as it did. In build quality, visor clarity, comfort, fit and other gimmicky features this Shoei is genuinely a class apart. No wonder ARAI and SHOEI are considered the best in the business

Got this one from Germany through a friend and also bought a dark tinted visor with it. The total cost of the whole package was about 44,000.

I know many (erstwhile including myself) will find spending so much on a helmet obnoxious waste of money. I mean my 5k SOL is also DOT approved come to think of it. Then why pay 8 times more?
The answer to that sort of pops in front of you with a little Internet research and experiencing these helmets on your own. Believe me, it feels worth every single penny spent.

@narula123: completely agree with you and have been in the same boat as you for the past couple of weeks as am in the market to pick up a new helmet. I currently ride with a Vemar helmet which I picked up a few years back and I noticed a few weeks back that it's cheek pad had cracked.

I love the Shoei Qwest helmet which is around 300USD on closeout and have been shying away from biting the bullet as I feel it's too much to spend on a helmet! Heart wants it and but the head tells me to settle for a Shark/ AGV at half the Shoei's cost!

And Congratulations on the purchase...

Thanks buddy

The pocket will never allow us lesser mortals to be convinced on the price for a Shoei or an Arai. Its a pure heart-rules-head decision. For me it was just one of those things on the bucket list. The sweet closeout deal and the graphics completely had me sold.

A Shark or an AGV is in no way a compromise. Both brands are very good on all counts. They might not have the legacy or the features of a Shoei or an Arai but they are not inferior either. If budget is a concern then I suggest check out the AGV K3 or K4 models. The Dainese store in Bangalore stocks them and sells them at almost the same price as USA. For an approx 15000 you can get yourself a nice AGV K3 from the D-Store here.

If you can stretch a bit and get that Qwest, then nothing like it. Good luck !

I got the Shark S700 Stipple a few weeks ago.

Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet-shark.jpg

Can attach more pics, if anyone is interested.

The positives:
  • A very snug and premium fit and feel.
  • Snap on kind of visor that leaves no room for air to come through visor.
  • Easy visor changing.
  • Fitted the Sena comm device and the speakers did not hurt the head.
  • Easy ratchet mechanism chin strap.
  • Aerodynamically designed.
  • Two vents over the head.
  • One chin vent.
  • Shark fin shaped handle to engage/release Internal visor.
The -ves:
  • Operating vent plugs are a bit cumbersome to operate with gloves on.
  • The Internal visor - may be I am yet to get used to it, kind of changes the vision as if one is wearing a lens - resulting in making it seem like you are sitting at a height disproportionate to what the actual height is.
  • The shark fin shaped chin - leaves a lot of room for air to gush in.
  • Could've had a chin curtain.
  • Wind noise is still pronounced - was expecting a drastic reduction post using the crappy HJC CS14
Anyone else who have used a Shark before - please pitch in with your comments.

Urgent comments solicited

There are 3 hemet closeouts on competetion accessories:

- Scorpion 750
- Bell Vortex
- Bell RS 1

I have almost made up my mind on the RS1. Could not find a bad word on them. Any user experiences here? The remainder 2 are literally half the price and again come with fantastic reviews / ratings.

Suggestions?
