You need a slightly bigger mainjet. The Pulsar 180 comes with a 115 main, try putting in a 120 or 125. The avenger comes with 125 mains. The needle has only two clip positions to play with on the BS29 so it's not gonna help much.

Don't go to the showroom and ask for an Avenger mainjet, they'll rip you off. Instead go to the car parts dealer and ask for the Solex 120/125 mainjet. It's of the same type. If u need reference carry your jet with you.

Edit: If everything is fine with your engine the engine shouldn't get hot on long rides. Are you using any kind of those fibreglass engine covers?

Racing/flatslide carbs won't make much difference to a stock engine. And those flatslides will cost you some serious amount of $$ as well.. for less than that you could get some head work done and put in a cbzxtreme cam and that would give you a noticeable difference in performance. Then if you want a bigger carb try the pulsar 180 carb (BS29) and jet it properly.
