How are the sales. Anybody spotted them on the roads?

Have they even ventured outside West Bengal?

here are some pics of the sub 20k bike the "rock 100" that i took at karnataka's only dealership for global auto at bellary. i dont know if the pictures reveal much about the quality which is sub 20k i must say.

i even rode one and i must say that if 2 persons like me (am 84kgs) sit on it, it is sure gonna struggle to pull us at a decent pace without wringing its neck!!!

There is an article with good coverage about the issues with these bike's quality, dealership, service in a Tamil magazine called "Motor Vikatan" They recommend to not to fall on this trap.

Nice of them to market a bike for under Rs 20K.I guess the company is based somewhere in West Bengal, with Chinese collaboration.
And wow!they also give a tachometer for the price. The engine and gearbox layout is a true copy of the original CD 100 with some cosmetic jobs.Even the frame on which the body is built appears to be a CD 100 replica. This is what is called reverse engineering, like the jobs our moped makers did in the 1970's and 1980's when collaborations were very tough to get through cue to the foreign exchange laws.
There is no chassis reinforcement from below the petrol tank to the gearbox (a la the Hero Honda CD 100SS , that was launched for rural use)-the chassis runs from within the petrol tank reaching the battery/tool box compartment directly.
And given the choice I will never buy one as reliability will be the biggest question and challenge. Only time may answer this question.

Reminds me of the expert recomendations that people gave about the Maruti 800 when it launched in 1984.

true, but having seen one, felt and ridden it, i must say that there is room for major major improvements in terms of quality. fit and finish, feel of the controls and the engine performance. performance is nowhere near what is available in the market today but ofcourse there is a price difference.

i would perhaps prefer to buy a used say cd100/splendor for 28k than this new machine. this bike is actually 19k exclusive of 12.5% vat, ltt and insurance. it ends up costing about 27k on road in karnataka
