And the FE is 125 km/litre

The success of this bike would depend on
1. Whether it can last atleast 50,000 Km on bad roads
2. Availability of spare parts & how good the service network is.

They had released another bike earlier, called Xpressions. That supposedly sold pretty well.

The company is part of the Xenitis group (:: Xenitis Group ::). They earlier launched very low priced PCs. This group is relatively new and growing faaast with very cheap products.

Default Rock 100

Quote:

Kolkata: Taking on two-wheeler giants like Hero Honda and Bajaj Auto, a little known Kolkata-based company—Global Automobiles (GAL)—on Wednesday launched India’s cheapest motorcycle at Rs 19,990. Rock100, powered by a 100cc engine, also provides one of the “best mileages’’ in the category at 125 km per litre, company officials claimed.
Rock100 is priced almost Rs 10,000 lower than its nearest competitor in this category, Bajaj Auto’s Platina, which costs nearly Rs 30,000. Hero Honda’s cheapest 100cc model ‘CD Dawn’ is priced at Rs 33,000 while TVS Motor’s ‘Star City’ costs around Rs 33,000.
An industry analyst said, “The price at which Rock100 is launched is certainly very attractive. However, one would have to wait for a few months to see how well it stand the competition from the automobile giants.’’ GAL chairman Santanu Ghosh said that Rock100 has been designed and developed at the company’s Hooghly facility. “We are rolling out Rock100 nationally. The company will appoint more than 800 dealers nationwide. Initial response to the bike is encouraging and we are confident of carving out a niche for ourselves in the 7.6- million two-wheeler market,’’ he said.
The company has worked on developing this model for over six months and has spent about Rs 10-12 crore, Ghosh said. “We plan to launch a 150cc gearless scooter, a 150cc and a 200cc motorcycle ,” he added.

Not bad. 2 iconic moments in November, then. Redefinition of the entry level segment with a 20 grand bike, and the embarking of the high end with the 12 lac R1.

There's a small problem, though. What guarantee does the Kolkata company have that it would not face the fate of the Chinese "Monto Motors"?

Besides, Hero Honda is already en' route for a 15 grand 100cc machine. I doubt any other company except Bajaj would stand a chance.

125km/L ??
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't that make it THE most fuel efficient bike in India? I'm really not sure of the other bikes in the market at this point of time.

I'd really love to see some more sporty looking bikes in the market. Every bike seems to have the similar looks, just a few things tweaked here & there.

The bike looks puny even for the 2 models, i think the bike would just break if a stout guy sits on it.

does anyone have any actual data on the sales of the xpression? rto figures or siam figures? cos if it sold well then it should have made some news somewhere but never heard of it till now. i seriously suspect the quality though. price is a cracker but need to see, feel, ride the bike before any real judgement.

but for the moment, experience indicates that any unbranded chinese stuff made for the indian market has been of low quality.

125 km per liter sounds a little far fetched to me. the price of the bike is very good indeed and in the reach of the common man who spends almost three times the amount right now for a bike. they also plan to introduce bigger engine bikes in the comming years, hope those are also priced cheaper than their competitors.
the company being new and just setting up a dealer network has yet to prove itself quality and reliability wise. i dont know how the other bigger giants are going to be able to counter this.
