Looks Good

But personally , I'd rather wait for the 2008 Ninja 250 , which is getting rave reviews all over. ( Parallel twin , liquid cooled, 30+ BhP. killer looks , decent mileage and top speed of 170+ ) and hopefully at below 2 lakh rupees mark.

We can not compare R1 5 and Ninja 250. 150cc vs 250cc and Rs.1L vs Rs.2L.

Good competition from the ninja if it is priced close to r15.But both are in different segments though.I liked the looks of the R15.

Bajaj is going to handle the marketing for Kawasaki. Knowing Bajaj, i dont think they will price it too heavily for the Indian market. Plus, we still are not sure about the price of the R15.

Yamaha has launched R15:it wiil be available in market from this winters.
Its main Features are
  • 150cc liquid cooled engine
  • 6 geared Gear Box
  • 2 cylinder, 4 Valves per cylinder
6 Gears and 2 cylinders for a 150cc? does not make any sense to me.

I dont think this bike comes with 2 cylinders; this seems like speculative info. The proto was showcased with a single cylinder liquid cooled diasil engine in Auto Expo 08

Does 6 gears on a 150 make sense? I dont think that is right as well.

That depends you know...now as Yamaha is trying to portray the R15 as a premium 150cc Sporty bike I would say 6 gears does make sense.1stly the bike as most people claim is going to redline at 10500rpm which is pretty high indeed for a 150cc considering that none of the current stock of Indian (air-cooled) bikes dare to go beyond 8000-8500rpm mark. Hence, you'll have a huge powerband to play with so intelligent gearing ratios could give you that second's edge on the track.Further,at 10500rpm I think the 6th gear could behave like an overdrive.Nevertheless it's a (again as per speculation) 4 valve setup so you should look at a relaxed initial power curve at the compared to (conventional) 2 valve Indian bikes which have a steeper initial power curve hence close gearing ratio at the lower end shall ensure that the bike is peppy throughout the rpm range...

......just my 2 cents

There were lots of occassions when i wished my P180 DTSi had a sixth gear. You know there is enough power in the engine, and the bike would do more speeds, but it gets too strained in 5th gear cruising around triple digit speeds.

True. If Ninja 250 is less than 2L then nothing like it.

Why not? I think R1 5 is going to make all its power at very high revs. Having 6 gears may be very helpful for city riding. Alos will provide the extra top speed . Try riding a 4sp Rx135 and a 5sp Rx135, you will get a better idea.

As others have answered both the above doubts, i would like to add something here though slightly OT:
the initial Ferrari
cars came with a 1500 cc V12!!!. That was more than 50 years ago.

Humm - I guess I will swallow my question for now and wait for the little crotch rocket to launch with 5 or 6 gears.

I have a RX and I agree that the RX needs a 5th gear. If this thing comes with 6 gears and if its gonna redline at 10k plus its surely going to be a sensation.

Like Vabs said, I'd rather save and buy the Ninja 250 - thats if its actually going to be launched.

Hmm, that's good sense talking ....this bike is mostly aimed at 18-25 year olds....incase your're past 25 years better start saving for a more relaxed Ninja 250R
