But personally , I'd rather wait for the 2008 Ninja 250 , which is getting rave reviews all over. ( Parallel twin , liquid cooled, 30+ BhP. killer looks , decent mileage and top speed of 170+ ) and hopefully at below 2 lakh rupees mark.
What kills the bikes like Ninja 250 is the excessive duties and taxes. Let's face it, it is not as if the Indian manufacturers are making products in 250+cc segment (crude British tractors do not count), so why not allow free import?

Munjal, Bajaj etc are making money below 250cc, that is the bread and butter and will remain for some tiome to come. In the meantime, low duty imports will introduce new technologies and put pressure on Indian manufacturers to improve as well.

Don't make the mistake of comparing a crude British Tractor to fiberglass on wheels, one's a motorcycle and the other is a bike, they are in two completely different leagues and with different purpose.

Absolutely correct gendarmee. One must compare apples with apples. The crude British tractor (its the Bullet that is referred to, if I am not wrong!) is fun to ride and serves a different purpose altogether. IMHO, it is not meant for daily riding. Its for the weekends to getaway from the hustle bustle of towns/cities and dart into the countryside and on highways. Its more of a lifestyle motorcycle that anything else.

Moreover, as one of the mods mentioned, we must stick to discussion on the YZF R1-5 than discussing other motorcycles/bikes in this thread.

That depends on how one likes to use it. One's made for cruising the other for speed/sport. Many guys, use either for work and everyday purpose,
Some, as ya put it keep the pair of wheels only for week ends..
So if one belongs to one clan, one shouldn't look down on the other calling it crude or the other calling it flimsy quality!?!

Yep, its best to stick to R1-5 here, When exactly is it supposed to hit the roads?
I'd seen it at the auto expo, have been waiting for it to come out ever since.

my bro was telling me that yamaha is giving about 45-50 bikes per showroom and bookings have started; not sure about the authenticity of the info though

Slightly away from the topic, just happened to see the R125 in the latest Bike magazine. its had a global launch and it looks much better than the r-15

why are they not launching it here in India?

I went to Yamaha Showroom in CMH Road (Bangalore) today. The salesperson said they are taking bookings already. They don't even have any spec sheet or brochure. He lifted the Bike magazine and showed me: "this is how the bike is going to be, and we'll deliver in July". I said, without looking into the spec sheet, you can't keep my 10 grands just like that. I left my phone number, and they promised to call me back when a brochure arrives.

Most of the specs have been given out at the auto expo. The key spec, which is 'bhp/torque/@rpm' is still missing.
