power & pricing have been a big let down, to the expectations not Yamaha!
Yamaha is Yamaha, its gonna be a out of the crowd kind bike for sure.
I dont think i'd buy it though, would have if it were 20 BHP & 80K. I was seriously considering it before.

Same here. It was on the radar till the news about power output has come out. Will wait to hear in more detail about the specs before making a final call. Maybe even wait for a full road test by the auto mags and guage the initial response.

For now, it does look like a dampener.

Check Motoring India. They dissected the R15 pointing out some slick engine/cooling/suspension features first time on a 150 cc in India. After that I agree that this bike is sheer value for money at 80k. esp when you consider pulsar/kartizma prices.

OT - By the way how come there isnt a good thread on the Kwacker 250?

With 1lakh price tag, its out of my budget. maybe they would reduce later.
I am looking a like in around 80k

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motorb...-ktm-duke.html (Bajaj to launch Ninja 250 and KTM Duke).

Not a dedicated Kwacker 250 thread but it is discussed here.

wow i just saw people curse 17bhp for 1lakh. last time i checked the karizma churned out 17bhp from a 223cc engine and was priced at around a lakh. last time i checked there were plenty of zmas on the road too!

now 150cc 17bhp doesn't sound like a lot, but bhp isn't the only thing that matters - it's bhp/ton which is more important and i've a strong feeling that this yam will take on zmas and P220s quite easily on that front. also there are other factors like how much of that 17 bhp is at the wheel (some is lost BTW) in comparison to the other 2 bikes. then there's engine refinement. i'd like to test ride her first, before i pass a judgement saying that she's under powered.

please dont comment by the bhp!!!
if you all know about CBR 150, it has similar numbers as the R1-5 / R15.

@Avi, you should have thought about swaping after having a look at the puny R1-5/R15.

BTW, the CBR 150 if assembled in India would cost around one lakh and I remember reading some where ( i think in a auto magazine) that its the bike which should be available in India.

while both of them are good lookers, i feel the R15 looks better than CBR150. (but if both are available in India, i would prefer the Honda, also i feel the CBR150 has a comfortable riding posture; i am a bit tall at 6'2'')

^ @kkr2k2..
The 1st pic is not of R15.. It is the R125..
R15 is made for India and looks much simpler than the R125.

Default Some updates...better than 17 BHP

Visited Yamaha lifestyle store today in Pune. They don't yet have R 15 on display, no publicity material either. Guy out there told me that it will e launched on 20th June in Pune. The booking might start around 14-25 June though. Interestingly, though he didn't reveal BHP figure he mentions that it *will be* higher than 18 BHP. He argued that P220 can reach top sped of 135 and is 20BHP and R15 will reach top speed of 145 - so for 6 speed transmission and 4 valve engine, it has to be more powerful - that' his hypothesis. Again, we are speculating...but I am happy that way because that means (hopefully) it will be around 20-22 BHP. Let's keep our fingers crossed! Don't from where that Chennai guy got 17 BHP figure!

BTW, the store did have R-1 and MT-01 on display, MT-01 looks damn sexy man!!! Wow!! They also have some nice riding gear..but lady there told me that it s not yet for sale. :(

Well, with the replacement of their ex-CEO (I guess his name was Tomotaka Ishikawa, he was moved suddenly overnight because Yamaha thought he committed a blunder by making it public that Yamaha had lost their plot in India by running after 100cc commuter machines), the one who had devised all these 'India needs true blue Yamahas' launches, expect anything.
India Yamaha Motors (er... whatever!), has once again shown to move to its wrong roadways by once again reviewing Alba and G5. Or lets hope that this was an 'J-I-T' move to stay abreast of the market competition.

Anyways, I wouldn't be now surprised to see a 17bhp, or rather, a not-expected underperforming Yamaha R-One-Five. I'd be the first one to be dejected like hell though!

Just prayin that Yamaha don't go astray again...

Guess what he is doing right now?

He is a full time adviser to Bajaj India! Hoping for Ninja 250 comes out earlier than they mentioned.

Does it need a wider rear at all, even if it does then its not too difficult to fit a wider tire.
