I heard that Yamaha is sponsoring a track day at Chennai for the first 500 R15 owners. Is it true?

They should've priced it under 1L. One lakh is a psychological barrier for many people to spend on a motorcycle. I like the bike, the technology it packs in and the looks but i feel 1.09lakh is a bit too high for a 150cc engined bike.

Sankar, you are right when you say 1 lac is a psychological barrier for most people to spend on a two-wheeler. But the technology and the finesse that has gone into producing the YZF R1-5 is cutting edge atleast by Indian standards.

You may want to wait for the response to the bike and if its feeble, expect Yamaha to lower down the price a fair bit to ensure good numbers are sold and the P220 and Zma are given tough competition. I personally think comparing the R1-5 with desi 150 cc bikes is not fair comparison!

Wander

No doubt the bike looks good and its technology is the best offered in India, but at the end of the day with all its technology and might its still going to be a 150CC engine with 17-18bhp under all that fancy fiber body kit

think about it, a P220 or a ZMA overtakes this wana be R1

Not to mention the retarted price of this! 1.05Lacs for this?
If it were at about 85-90K on road it would have made sense.

I'll say it again, for all the technology, the bike will still crippled by the tiny torque of a 150cc engine. A 200cc or 250cc would not have been significantly expensive to manufacture, but it would have totally re-written the performance / price equation in *real-world* riding.

Sigh.

A bit Expensive for a 150cc engine and I am still going to buy a R1.

Specs for R15

-Front, Rear disc brake
-12 litres tank
-DiASil Cylinder
-Bharat stage 4 standard
-Liquid cooled engine
-Top speed of 145KM/hr
-cruise speed of 135 km/hr
-Mileage around 35-40 in city
-BHP: 22
-Weight: 120 Kg
-6 speed transmission
-R1 Style Instrument Console
- 10,500 RPM Redline
-Alloy wheels,
-Open type chain and grab rail

The chassis is a high tensile steel deltabox design, familiar to what we seen with the Yamaha YZF-125 and the Yamaha GP250 bike. The rumor of the Yamaha YZF-R15 tells that this radical, high-revving, fuel-injected 150cc is the work of the same engineers who created our YZF-R1 and YZF-R6 supersport bikes

It’s overall length is 1070mm, overall width is 670mm and its wheels base is 1290mm. YZF R15 150cc features F 80/90 -17 inches tyres in the front and 100/80-17 inches tyres in the rear. Both the tyres are tubeless

Whats up with yamaha? I mean whats the secrecy ? Why cant they just reveal the correct figures and bring an end to speculation. Everyone gets a new bhp figure and even people who have booked the R15 are not sure what they have booked.

I just hope they dont get a 15 odd bhp, that will be fun es[ecially for all the guys who have put the money on the table .

Exactly! Many of them have booked it thinking it'll be a 20+ Bhp baddie and in the 80 - 85 K bracket. Hope no one has fainted
reading about 17-18 bhp and 1.09L price tag!

Perhaps they want the competition to keep guessing. And yes, not to forget the potential customers as well. Till then keep speculating

True. I have completely stopped speculating about the R15 now and am continuing to speculate the launch of the ZZR 250 . Oh and this has been going on since I saw the zzr 250 in the 2nd Auto expo in Delhi in 1994

I have been really pained by the approach Yamaha has shown towards the R15. Agree the looks are stunning and all that jazz. But its kinda taking the Indians (Who cant really afford any Superbikes) for a ride.

Initially I had plans to upgrade, but have given up. My 3 yr old P180 still rocks like a hurricane. And hence will continue with the same.
