This one could take every one by surprise with its pricing. Bajaj plans to get these to India through Thailand, with whom we have an FTA (Free Trade Agreement). Source - Rahul Bajaj in Business Line (Saturday - 12/01/08)

Bajaj plans to launch the Ninja for 2Lacs, which is a steal, it plans to get the bike here by CKD, this way they can save quite alot of duty.

I think 2L for the Ninja 250 is a tad overpriced. However it sure is tempting.

I would rather wait and put in 3.5 - 4 L for a 600 from Suzuki or the Kawaker Ninja 6R.

either way looks like 2008 is finally the year bike manufacturers move out of the 150-200cc bracket.

As India has a free trade agreement with the Thai can't we pick it ourself from thailand(assuming it is 3500USD in thai too) and not pay the 104% duties?.Assuming that bajaj fill sell it for somewhere around 1.8L rs here in india (translates to 4500$) actually we and up saving 1000$? I mean considering the travel to thai as a pleasure trip n not worrying about the travel expenses.

If the Ninja250 is introduced as a CKD unit,a price of Rs 1.6-1.8L sounds more reasonable. At a price of almost $3.8-4.0K on road in the US,not having to pay any duty makes this bike really worthwhile.

What is the reliability quotient with KTM? After all it'll be one of the few European brands to have tie-up with and Indian bike manufacturer.Unlike the Japanese brands whcich have been tried, tested and successful all over (especially India) , i am not sure if the European models are very well suited to Indian conditions (heat) unless cranked up specifically for our use.A classic exmple of that would be the Royal Enfield which after initial failure and furthur modification is gradually now a hit in India . Also why we dont see too many Augustas Ducatis and Aprillas around compared to the Hondas, Suzukis Yamahas and the Kawasakis..

umm, KTMs are a favourite as Africa tourers - and that should prove their mettle quite a bit. Don't think reliability should be a major issue. Though they arent half as pretty as some of thevolved, Kwackers and Yams, and with the kind of money involved from the buyer's point of view, Bajaj may be better off designing a platform around the KTM mills rather than just sell them as is.

KTM bikes are quite reliable. There used to be issues with the powertrain way back in the 80s.They used to supply radiators to Suzuki, and then things began to look good for KTM.
Of course..they aren't the best looking bikes..

Give it a few months..with all the hype created with the Expo, everyone's busy with the launch of new cars. The bikes will hit the stands more towards the end of summer.

Thumbs up The Baby Ninja ... soon to be launched in India

Since, Ninja was intruding into the R1-5 thread quite often, I thought it is wise to start a thread dedicated to it.

Discuss the impending launch of the baby Ninja here.

Mods, if such a thread exists already, please merge or delete this post.
