Ok here's some additional information.

I have a PDF file with me which has everything about the UCE engine in detail including the internal component pictures. But at 2.5 MB it's too huge to be uploaded here on Tbhp.

Agreed that Enfield is improving it's quality & technology... but for what? Enfield Bullet is being sold the world over due to it's old world charm and it is the only old world Brit thumper in production.

Enfield is going to pull itself out from the niche segment they have for themselves. When Bajaj & TVS rolls out their big bikes the Enfield will face the heat.

RE exports a 500cc FI version of the TBTS style engine. Thats simply down to emission norms. Am sure that RE would want to hang on to its good old design but can't cos of pollution control norms. The TBTS is a similar bore and stroke and still a pushrod engine with the thump mostly intact. Anyway, the Thunderbird is NOT a Bullet and has never been one. Its just a Royal Enfield Thunderbird whereas the other models are called the Bullet.

Am sure that by 2009 the 500cc FI will be available in India.

Yes TB was never a Bullet.

But looking at the engine i'm starting to like it for it's possibilities. But i'd like to have it in Bullet clothes.

They got the chain ALL wrong - Looks like a mirror image of the original bullet.

My first tought - OMG!, no chain drive!!, then saw its on the right side.

Few years ago they dug the grave by mixing up the brake and gear levers.

Now they have done the burial by changing the drive side itself!!!

But this is going to be a good thing regarding braking. Previous left shift bikes had brake pedal on the right side and the brake on the left side of the wheel. The brake pedal on the right is connected to the brake linkage on the left through a simple rod which passes under the bike. When you apply pressure on the brake pedal this rod 'twists' and the force you apply on the pedal is not transmitted to the brakes. This is why all the left shift Enfield guys complain about the lack of braking feel in their machines.


They shifted the chain drive to the right because the the brake resides on the side where the chain sprocket is because chain sprocket is the brake drum. And now they have a direct link between the brake pedal and the brake.So this bike should brake better than the previous left shift Enfields.

No man! Let me rephrase it.

The old CI350s were like the old 2liter TCIC Safari. The AVLs were like the 3liter Dicor. And this new engine would be like the 2.2liter Dicor. Lol

They are planning to phase out CI350s thats what i heard. Eventually they'll stop production of the AVL too. And this engine would carry on in their product line up.

It would've been nice if they didn't stop the CI350 production, if they do that then the Bullet story would be over.

Thank god they did that.

Imagine standing in rain soaked to the bone in the middle of night and the damn connector rod comes off because you let go of the bike in a pot hole.

Been there, struggled to put it back in place and then rode home.

i am told that the tbts is doing pretty well at this stage in terms of sales & performance. it is giving a handy city mileage of 48-50kmpl. now that very good for a 350cc thumper.

whats lacking is the "thump" from the exhaust. perhaps a shorter silencer would do the job.

Looks good. But the silencer is too long.

Still can't stop loving the right side gear shift. Gear on the "RIGHT" side not on the "WRONG" side.

wow at last there is some change in the TB.. showroom guys were telling from long time that there would be new engine comming for TB... I am waiting to see the 500cc TB...
