If it's for your dad and your dad likes the bike then do what your heart says.

If your dad isn't too keen about this bike, bargain.

Even I dont mind shelling out the extra 1k. I'll have to confirm by tonight.
Dad said that the guy had put in pulsar handles and a suzuki headlight , but he had the original stuff still with him, and that he'd put them back.

Yes , he said he'd take care of the re registration.

me and dad thought about it a bit. Its not exactly in good condition, and its a bit old. but with some work - engine bearings and a repaint and some new panels for the battery box , it should be good . Decided to stick out a little longer. Called up the seller and offered 14k as per the mech's suggestion. Lets see

The bike cost 9K. The rest was the mechanics commission. I will try and get the number of that mechanic.

As it is, this bike will be for sale in 20-30 days. My friend has bought it for his brother in law to practice who has ridden bikes only around 7 times before and is about to buy a 600.

no word from the earlier seller.
Our mech got word that there was another one for sale somewhere in the city, an '86 model, but for 19k, but negotiable it seems.
Dad's mech is of the opinion that the earlier 'uns being more japanese than indian are better , but won't the extra age offset the advantage?

Will be checking up on that soon.

My exp with RX Prices

Greenhorn - pl see if the bike you are getting is from the lot which had components made in Japan (Yes initial few years RX had a lot of components which were imported). If yes don't worry about 1 k. Those RXs are priceless.
Pl don't get me wrong other RX owners i myself own a Very well maintained RX135 which is kind of my second life (one is my wife) and though i can match a lot of Pulsars/RTRs on road. it isn't as good as the late 80s/early 90s RX100. The reliability of those bikes is legendary because of the components. Post 92 RX do not command that price and RXG till 1998 are again not so good. In case you don't find a pre 92/93 RX. I would recommend to go for a post 99 RX135 (the YEIS ones). A decently maintained RX135 can be bought in less than 17-18k. You may want to try out some BBs of tech companies as i've seen many guys selling their RXs coz of moving onsite etc.
Lastly - This is the second time in last month i've been touched so deeply because of a write up on RX. The fist one was a coverage in Overdrive and this is the second one. I know mostly these kind of feeling are more attched to bullet owners, but ask anyone who has spend his college days and much of adult life on a RX and you'll understand that their love of their bikes is something which can't be measured. Days when we filled petrol worth 5 bucks each time we had to go out of hostel and still manage to have fun.

Do you have any clue of your old RX?Nothing comes close to that if you find that one and restore as restoring RX is not very expencive and difficult.

@Greenhorn, Yes the initial lots are proud to own vehicles
I am a fan of RX but I got a new RXG (since that RX was stopped) and I will tell you I was totally let down with this vehicle. You know what, I sold this guy in a year and got a 2nd hand RX100. Its a awesome piece.
And yes, bring it back with originals. It will look stunning.

Green, before you climb up on the original Japanese bandwagon you should give a thought regarding how much of that original Jap stuff is left on the bike you buy. Considering the age of the early RX100s must've been opened twice or thrice and Jap components replaced with Indian made stuff.

So imo if you don't know the history of the Jap bike you're buying don't give any premium for it over other models.

Well! I guess you got your bike for dirt cheap! Here in Mangalore a rx135 does not come with in 20k! So hats off to you! And whats the chamber doing there on the bike? Is it yours?
