Hi All,

I own a Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTSi 2005 make.
I am interested in putting a brighter headlamp for my bike.
I enquired for Philips Halogens but am confused which one to put on!!!
What is the maximum wattage of the lamp that can be put Legally.
The OEM lamp is 35/35watts which is insufficient on highways( which is mostly my travel ground).
Dear Senior Members & Experts PLEASE suggest a Halogen for my bike.
Are there any electrical modifications required? If yes please tell me what are they?
Actually a couple of my friends are also interested.

Hi ankushmulay,

You can put a 55\60 watt bulb but you will have change your coils to the one on Avenger.

Ankush, what Technocrat has suggested is the best option for you. The other option for you is coil rewinding, I suggest you NOT to go in for rewinding under circumstance.

A 150 with 55/60 lamp and Avy coil is almost as good as the P220's lights. With the P220 doing a shade better only because of better spread of light.

Hi,

Thanks Technocrat & Praful for your valuable comments.

Please let me know one thing.

Following is what I need to do, is what I have understood. Please correct me if I am wrong.

1. Change the existing P150 stator plate to Avenger 180; that way I will be increasing the total wattage output and I will be able to put a higher wattage headlight bulb.

2. Is it like remove the existing sator plate fixing the avenger's and that's it?

3. How would be the Philips crystal vision. However it comes in a pair. neways one of my friends also wants to upgrade.
Can you suggest any other bulb which is as good as Philips, can be bought single and if possibile cheaper?

Hi,

A gentle reminder to Technocrat to comment on my querries.

Thank You

Hi Ankush,

I have not done this myself so am not aware of the exact procedure please ask your mech & he should be able to do this.

Not sure about Phillips crystal vision but normal 55\60 watt Phillips bulbs are available in single packs so should not be a problem.

I hope this helps

i'm planning on doing a similar thing on my 180UG3. should get it done in the next few weeks possibly. will let you know how it goes (that is if you don't do it before).

Ankushmulay: You can install the Avenger 180’s coil plate (Statis Plate) (part no. DV111005) into the stator plate casing of your Pulsar 150 DTSi. The stator plate of the Avenger 180 is of similar size as the one in rest of the Pulsars, its coil is thicker and heavier than Pulsar 150/180/200 DTSi. This enables it to produce more current to support the 60W headlight setup.

Installation is pretty straight forward and easy, though it is recommended that you get the installation done by a professional mechanic, you can do it yourself. All one needs to do is open the casing of the stator plate, located on the left hand side, right next to the front sprocket cover. After opening the casing, detach the two connecting wires and use the screwdriver to unfasten the stock stator plate and fix Avenger’s stator plate. After which you need to attach both connecting wires and casing back in the place and replace the stock halogen with the new 55/60w halogen and enjoy better lighting......

go to bcmtouring. its a pretty highly viewed thread :)

dreamdiesel has given the one line method - details/discussions/bulbs/reflectors etyadi are all done to death there.

Ankush the BEST BET as per me would be to go in for 100/ 90 lighting. Since most of the time you ride on the highways, it is the best solution. It'll cost you about Rs. 1500 - Rs. 2000 for the mod, but it is definitely worth it.

hes talking about the 100/90w lights costing 2000. IMO incl the relays etc it shouldnt cost more than 1200.

If 2000 must be spent, a HID is a wiser investment, as an AUXILIARY. Please don't be a callous individual riding only on HID.

100/90 electricals with rewound coils do lead to reliability issues. Check xbhp threads. mil jaayenge some old hats ki news. but like problems after lots of touring/all weather then like in 1.5-2 years problems.

Yeah exactly. I guess the Avenger coil + Philips/Osram 55w bulbs are more than enough.
