Today I am proud to announce that I am an owner of a RX135-5 Speed (One of My Dream Machine), after a drastic hunt for the beast since one year picked up the bike on 02-02-2009 at 12AM (Midnight).
Here are the details
Bike – Yamaha RX135 5 Speed
Color - Black
Condition - Stock
Budget – Price 20,000
Owner - Single
Registration – Karnataka, Insurance Valid till 19th Feb 2009
Model – 2000
Kms – 41,000
Here comes the Story of Purchase-
I found the Add in my company’s internal classifieds which had this bike for sale for 22K, I called the Owner on 28-01-2009 he said Bike is in Excellent condition and not been used from one year, he stays in Mathigere (Bangalore) almost 70 Kms from my Place (Hosur). I requested him to get the Bike to Electronic City (Center point for both) for the Test Drive, he agreed and he said that he will call me at 2PM on 01-02-2009 for a Test Drive. The day was not too far it was 2PM 01-02-2009 I was waiting for his call, waited till 3PM and I called him back he did not pick up the call, tried again he said he said he is stuck on a work and will call me back, it was 6PM and no response at last he called me at 8.30PM he said he has got another person ready to pick up the bike for 22K, He can wait for me till 02-02-2009 10AM else he will dispose the bike to that person on 02-02-2009 evening.
It was my time to decide I was bit tensed for a second I called him back at 9PM I said ‘ BOSS I will come now to your place right now for TD and if I am OK with the Bike I will pick it up immediately’ He said tats fine. Me, My great Friend (T-Bhpian) and my Brother Started immediately in my car at 9.10PM and reached his place at 10.45PM. Called the guy for at least 10times he did not pick up the phone, got tensed again luckily I had his residence Number, his Dad picked up the Phone and guided us to his home.
That guy actually slept of (Hang over).
SAW the bike outlook was very Dirty, looked like it was not washed since he bought, spill of White Paint drops all over bike. Took a Test Drive and found the bike in Average condition with below problems –
Degraded Clutch, Worn Sprocket, Rings noise, compressor (Boar) has to be Re-worked, failed Battery, 40% life left on Front and Rear Tyres (Had TVS Tyres).
My Mind was just oscillating to pick the bike or not, still thought nothing is impossible let’s start a Restoration Project anyways I have my Team-Bhp to help me.
Started Negotiating from 16000 and ended up finishing the deal for 20000, paid him cash at12AM 02-02-2009 and collect the Original RC Book and Insurance Papers (TEO Form and Sale Receipt Formalities yet to be completed)
I started riding the bike at the speed of 60Kmph (Carried a Helmet and pair of Gloves with me). Bike was running fine till we crossed 10Kms, suddenly flames started sparking from the Silencer and I stopped immediately and black smoke continued for 5 Minutes. Started riding again after 15 minutes bike started running fine for 2-3 Kms and Engine shuts OFF completely need a break for 5-10 minutes and again will run for 2-3 Kms and Engine Shuts OFF. Ensured Bike had enough Fuel , Engine Oil and Side Oil. At last I handled the Bike in my Left hand and Right hand holding the Left Rear windows of My car (Esteem) and towed the bike till Hosur stopping for every 15-20 Minutes. We reached home at 4AM.
Tats was a great Adventurous trip to get the Beast Home.
Today I took the bike to a Mechanic and after a test Drive He said there is no major problem with the bike just need a fine tuning for Carb, Replacement of Clutch Packing, Brake shoes.
However there is slight Rings noise and he said that he needs to open the Boar and check the Piston and Rings condition, if worn out then needs a Re-Work, Will get the confirmation tomorrow

Further more parts replaced -
Suzuki Swing Arm Rubber
Chain Adjuster Bolt
Carburator Oring Kit
Clutch Bell Reset done, Used NC Thinner to clear the Paint marks on the body. Water washed and took a test drive --- Bike was like just Vrooom Vrooom liked the Throttle response and did 80kmp in 3rd Gear, was able to touch 110kmph with the Top Gear, was traffic further else would have done 120kmph I guess. We found that engine was shutting OFF while getting it from Bangalore because of a Air lock in the Fuel tank, so cleaned the Fuel cap and Bike is now running perfect and smooth.
Total cost involved was Rs 2840/-
Mechanic says that to install a Throttle response cable, 2T oil supply cable has to be removed and oil should be added in the Fuel tank while filling the fuel, Guys please let me know if there is any chance to install the Throttle response cable without the oil supply cable removal.

If the pump is in good working order i'd say leave it connected in place and and use stock throttle setup.

Currently the Oil Pump is working fine, not sure how to install the Quick Throttle without disturbing the Oil supply cable.
Yesterday I got the Clutch plates replaced because they had worn out and rev was too high. I also got a new Exide battery installed, repalced the Fuel TAP, Front Head light Assembly (YEZDI Doom)
Yamaha Stock Clutch plates - Rs35 each plate, Total Six plates so Rs 210
Fuel Tap - Rs55
EXIDE Battery - Rs650 (15 Mon Warranty)
Head Light Assembly with lamp - Rs650
Also Lubricated the front Fork by replacing the Oil ciel & Fork Oil
After repalcing the Clutch plates the Initial Pickup of the bike is reduced, I dont feel the previous power, My Mechanic told that Carburator is tuned properly and thats the maximum pickup the bike can gain as the Bore & Piston/Rings are bit weak and there is a very little play in Crank Shaft.
Please suggest if the pickup can be increased just tuning the Carburator, because now I cannot burn my pockets by re-work on Bore & Engine. Iam actually saving money for RD CDI & RD carbutator & Fibre Reed Valves.

Haven't we heard those stories before
Beware my boy, mechanic is trying to act funny and take advantage of you not knowing anything about the bike.
From where is your mechanic getting you RD carbs and what fibre reeds is he suggesting you install?
|23rd February 2009, 23:40||#11|
I actual meant RDD CDI,
Bike was over Rev with the previous Clutch, as the Acceleration increases (throttle) the RPM use a increase. I know this this happens when because of a worn Cluch plates.
Iam not sure because of Over Rev I felt the Pickup was high and with the new clutch plates the rev is not there, bike is very smooth.
However definetly I feel the Pickup is bit low.
I dont suspect the mechanic as such, when he opened the Bore kit, I myself saw that the bore and piston rings are weak and Crank connecting Rod has a play

Congratulations on your purchase! Nice buy! Post some pic and facts like Mileage, Max. Speed etc. Ride safe! and do not compromise on oil pump for the quick throttle cable. You can do it later.

Iam planning to change the Rear and Front Tyre for my Rx135 5 Speed,
Currently its running with TVS tyres and are in in very bad shape.
I am thinking to go for the below tyre specs (Make - MRF) -
Front - 2.75-18- Zapper FS
Rear - 100/90-18 Zapper Y or Zapper Q
I heard that with the 100/90-18 tyre i would not get Initial pickup however top end will be better
Also few of my Yamaha friends & also mechanic suggested me to to go for Yezdi RIM and CEAT tyre in the rear and CEAT tyre in the front (not sure about the specs) which will result in better Initial Pickup and may reduce the Top end, howeever when ported the Top end will increase.
In future I would defenelty upgrade the performance of the bike by installing RDD CDI, RD carburator and Fiber Reed valves. I guess the tyre also plays an important role when its come to the Initial Pickup and Top speeds. I really do not want to compromise on Initial Pickup and Top speeds so please suggest me the best tyre specs for front & Rear which actually suite my requirement.
