Default Honda Motorcycle unveils new version (PGM-FI) of CBF Stunner

New Delhi, May 26 (PTI) Honda Motorcycles and Scooter India (HMSI) today launched a new version of its 125 cc sports bike - CBF Stunner - priced at Rs 64,630 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The launch is part of the company's strategy to increase its sales in the Indian two-wheeler market.

"Last fiscal we sold about 10.7 lakh units of two-wheelers and this year we are targeting 12 per cent increase at 12.5 lakh units. And the CBF Stunner will play an important role," HMSI Chief Executive Officer Shinji Aoyama told reporters here.

The new bike will be equipped with PGM-FI (Programme Fuel Injection) technology, which gives more power, the company said.

It will be available in the market by the first week of June, it added.

According to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the total two-wheeler sales in the last financial year increased by 2.60 per cent at 74,37,670 units compared to 72,49,278 units in FY'08. PTI RKL BSM SM 05261243 DELHI

Honda claims s gain of around .5bhp and 5kmpl for FI
all this for a price increase of around 14K
64K price tag takes it in the territory of 150CC bikes and i guess even a P180 can be had for around 3K more.

5 kmpl is hard to believe. TVS, Bajaj and Hero Honda have reported little to no gains in FE after using EFI.

Curious to see some customer reviews.

True, 64k is a bit stiff. But not all decisions are based on cubic capacity. A Honda product is a Honda product. I would gladly pay the same money for a smaller Honda than a Bajaj.

64k is not on road, but it is 'Ex Showroom'. Add 6-7k more (except those lucky guys residing in Delhi!) for getting realistic prices. It will be around 70k here in Pune, costlier than Pulsar180. No matter how smooth the bike is, as long as it requires fuel, I don't think so much increase is justifiable, especially when the difference between carbed and FI version of other bikes is around 5k (Glamour and Glamour FI, Apache 160RTR and RTR FI).

The fully loaded version of Carb Stunner costs around 50k. For breaking even with this 14,000rs, assuming that the vehicle gives 5kmpl extra mileage (and taking 1re cost for 1km run), you can visualize the 2 stunners as

1. Stunner FI at 64k ex showroom
2. Stunner Carb at 64k ex showroom and Free fuel for 14,000kms.

This all comes down to sanity, I think

The only glitch in your perfectly reasonable calculation is the estimated gain from FI. I am willing to bet that a Honda FI unit gets much more than a 5 km gain. When BMW ditched carbs for FI on their 650s, economy went up from 45 MPG to 65 MPG. So, typically, FI gains are quite substantial. Long story short, don't judge FI by the half assed jobs done by HH and TVS.

This 5 kmpl is not estimated by me, it is claimed by Honda as per this post:

Besides, the calculation takes 1re for 1km which is quite big, as it assumes currently Stunner gives only 45kmpl average, which can't be true!

They sshould give a similar treatment for the Unicorn. The only gripe with Uni is its orthodox long in the tooth styling

I just realised that its only a 125 cc.

Jeez thats a lot of money.

Methinks this is the export model which they offer locally to whoever wants it .

It would bomb just like the Glamour PGM-Fi. It aint cheap in the carb form as it is & the FI is way too expensive for anyone to buy. That pricing is in 150 cc category.

People wont pay 14k extra for same looking bike(carb vs FI) in the commuter segment.

Looks little different no? I see they got some gold plating on the engine cases.

But overall its gonna bomb for sure.

I don't think a 5 kmpl increase would make people bat an eyelid at this bike (for an additional 14K). IMHO it'll not find a place on the sales chart.

OT: I would love to meet the person who wrote the press release for this launch. A few "interesting" points that caught my eye:

1. Even the top speed of 100 KM/Hr can be enjoyed by biking enthusiasts.
2. It has CBR1000RR inspired dual tone styling and a sporty half-chain case. (wish they would look beyond the paint scheme and the chain cover)!!
3. Among the other attractive feature of CBF Stunner PGM-FI include: Bank Angle Sensor, Premium 3-D Emblem, Handle Weight and the premium key. (WOW!)

Looks like this guy was in Hero Honda earlier!

A dummy engine cover would have helped them conceal the punny engine . I think 64K is too high a price tag for a125 CC bike but I really like the original stunner.
