Default Disc Brakes not working fine – Bullet Electra ES

Hi,
I have a Bullet Electra ES with company fitted Disc brakes. For the last few months I am facing problem with my disc brakes. The brake liver is not fully functional, means when pressed the liver does not come back fully. Because of this I think the brake also touches the disc and the movement of front wheel doesn’t go freely after the brakes are applied. I have tried changing the oil also but it was of no use.

Any help regarding this would be of great help.

Looks like you got air inside the brake line.
You need to bleed the brakes.

btw, who changed the oil?

The brakes when pressed, works fine.... but does not go back fully...
Me myself replaced the oil... also cleaned the Disc with petrol/oil before fitting it back.

What do you mean by "You need to bleed the brakes" ?

There is a spring inside the oil sump.
It pushes the lever back into position.

Is that fixed correctly?

I know Brake fluid is not oil. in other words here in north it is also known as brake oil, so used oil word. I had drained all the oil (in your words fluid) before adding new one.

Tarun. Bleeding a hydraulic setup is very important.

Even a tiny pocket of air will cause issues with the brake.
This is primarily because the disc brake works by compressing the oil and pushing it against the brake shoes.
When air is present in the system this compression will not happen.

However you mention that the brakes engage fine. But do not disengage fully.
If that is correct, I would suspect a faulty spring and/or air pockets bled brakes.

Since brakes are one of the most crucial parts in a bike, I suggest you get a mechanic to look at it.
Do not simply go to any mechanic but rather find one with experience in disc brakes.

did you make sure you removed all the air from the setup cause if you even have a small bubble the brake would not work the way they should. get it done from some one good in Chnadigarh. i am sure that Dana would be able to do it.

Air was fully removed from the Disc before i added the new Oil. Please get me the Address of Dana.

Well it was done by my big bro who is a tech person (has done mechanical engineering). Can anyone tell me step by step points for bleed and i will redo it this sat/sunday.

springs et all removed, flooded with oil and closed.
voila the brakes work fine now.

What I learnt.
riding a bike without brakes is more fun.cheers:

Default Disc brake problem with my Electra

Hi, I have a electra ES/Disc 2006 model, now from some time I was facing some problem with the Disc so I opened the Master cylinder to clean it, then i noticed that the Piston which the brake lever moves was a bit hard in moving. so i removed all the brake oil and cleaned the cylinder with Diesel but still the piston is not moving freely and moreover some white fluid is coming out from piston area. Can anyone help me out in fixing this issue? any one knows how to removed the piston from the master cylinder? as then it could be cleaned.

Or can advice any good Disc Mechanic in Chandigarh?

I have found a Master cylinder pic from the net, which will make things more easy to be explained.

Advice/help are welcome...
