JC road!!?
I was told most of the stuff available there (ex: engine blocks etc) are fakes.

@rohan
if you are going for a proper conversion then you would need
5 speed bore kit
5 speed gear box
i don't think you would get a 5 speed head so need to mod the existing one.

as far as i know these are not easily available.
and about the actual conversion: search this forum : there is a thread on this topic.

Nice- congrats.
Always a real pleasure seeing someone enjoy their 2-strokes and treasure them.
I don't know what to say when many say they are loud, smoke and stink a lot, not comfy, etc etc.
I seriously don't know what to say.

If it's truly only 17.5K Kms odd and well ridden and maintained, an indicated 115Kmph and a true 108-110Kmph is possible on that bike- solo.
Most new and not very old RX135 speedos had an approx error of about +5Kmph at 100Kmph.

May i point out- a typo?
That would be '115 Kmph on the speedo'.

For the uninitiated, though i doubt anyone here would be-
speed - indicated by the speedometer aka speedo.
(not the brand or company that makes slick swimsuits/bikinis for even slicker bodies)
Distance covered - indicated by the odometer aka odo.

@ bikeinstein;
yeah mate, it is a typo. speedo

@ somspaple, rohan, ajay
yes... tank has a few welds here and there. but i might get a new tank and panels. i dont particularly like the 5 speed paintjob. still need to think what other decals would look good.

by the way, i have a 5 speed conversion kit also with me, which i had got before finding this bike; just in case i find a good 4 speed.
pm me, i ll let you know where you can find one of these kits.
i may just pick up another junk 4 gear and make it a 5 speed setup.

i am falling in love with the 5 speed. especially the 2nd gear

of course, the RD still takes the cake and a has a bigger place in my heart.

Going offtopic - is there a disc brake setup available for the RX? The last time rode on a RX 135, I was not so comfortable with the drums at speeds of 80 and above.

as a general recommendation, the 135 doesnt need a disc. it is not very front heavy and when i ride, the front end does come up occasionally.
the drum is good enough.
to put a disc, you ll have to weld a caliper whose mounting has close tolerances. the disc also needs to be bolted on pretty accurately.
so your best bet is to put a complete fazer front end which in my view will cost you upwards of 7k.
in all, it comes a little too expensive. you can put those 7k for better purpose to help your bike perform better.

Hello All,

Off topic, but can the experts recommend the best ways to clean a cat-con exhaust?

My '99 model RX135 has cat-con and the last time it was cleaned was in April '09 and since then the bike has run approx. 2500 kms. I feel there is a drop in the pick-up may be this is one reason. Also, what is the time-interval for cleaning the cat-cons.

Thanks,
Jose.

^^^ Heating?! Wont that destroy the catcon??

@josejoseph, having to clean the silencer in 2,500 is preposterous! You are probably using v poor quality 2t oil... and/or there is some other problem.

Not sure if catcon 2 stroke silencers differ, but the time for cleaning non catcon silencer varies greatly depending on the quality of oil, its supply, state of tune and usage pattern. Mine hasn't been cleaned for 21 k km, and going good.

I use only Yamalube 2T oil brought from authorized service center. So don't think this is due to bad oil. There is a fact that the cat-con was recently acquired from a scrap wala and must not have been properly taken care by my mechanic during fitting.

For the weekend I'll put back my original silencer and check if the low pick up is due to the silencer or any engine problem .

Thanks,
Jose.

Default Re: Got a new RX 135 - 5 speed

Hi BHPians,

I am yet another proud owner of an RX-135 5speed.

I bought the bike 20 days back and it was in very bad shape then. I had to work on it to get it completely restored. Will be sharing the pics.

Its a long story as to how I managed to get my hands on this single owner, stock, authentic 5 speed in Bangalore.

Forget about the sky high prices, some of the 5Speed owners in Bangalore are not willing to sell their bikes even if they are offered above market rates.

My first love was and always will be the RD-350. Due to unrealistic prices of the bike ( 1 Lac+ ) , cost of spares ( Indicators costing 3-4 Thousand ) and Vitamin M deficiency, I settled for arguably the next best alternative to the RD from the Yamaha's 2 stroke stable.

I could never understand why an RX-Z 5 Speed was quoted at double the price of an RX-135 5 speed even though they have the same engine, bore and horse power. Only the sporty look, and few stuffs like disc brake cant be valid explanations for quoting double the price.

Awaiting comments and suggestions from the experts out here.

Ride her with proper fuel and lube for a month and start working on whatever issue you face or feels like need to be worked on.
First thing would be bore size and whether it requires any engine work specially crank as 2 stroke crank goes off very fast.Retain the cat con pipe as it works like mini chambers for low and mid range.Get good mechanic to take care of her PM me if you need some trust worthy guys in Bangalore.
If you want to slightly pimp your bike and don't mind paying extra moolah get her RDD CDI and filters.
Change the crash guard to stock one as this one on your bike never works.
I am not expert but can suggest some good care about two strokes.

Congratulations mate! The bike looks to be kept really well!

Is that a Shogun handle bar in the RX?
