Post Thunderbird Chainset

Hey guys

Its been 1400 kms after my bike's last service. The chain was loosened i could feel it but somehow was not getting time to get it tightened . Few days back while starting on 1st gear (It was noticed only in 1st gear) i heard noise from chain, it was skipping, went to the mechanic he said the chainset needs to be replaced. The teeths of flywheel are broken, i did not have time to get the chainset replaced at that time so asked him to do some temporary 'jugaad' and told him i will get it replaced next weekend. But to me the flywheel seemed fine, i mean it was a little worn off but after he tightened the chain the bike is running fine. The price of chainset is around 800 Rs.

Here are my questions:
1. Does the chain skips if its loose?

2. Is it the right price that he told me?

3. What if i ride it as it is?

Yes it will skip.
Yes the price is right.
You will tighten it, it will get loose and skip. Cycles getting shorter and shorter.

Of course worst case, the chain will snap and then you will be stuck in the middle of someplace with a lovely bike that has a running engine. Just that it will not be moving.

Get it replaced.

Btw, how many kms has this chain set lasted.

I generally replace my chain set every 40k kms. Currently on my third set.

It has lasted around 38k kms . I went to the mechanic, getting the chainset replaced. He gave me 2 options for the chainset Original and Diamond. I still have to tell him which one i want. The price for the original is 1300 Rs. and Diamond one is 800-900 Rs. Which one should i go for?
The mechanic said it'll last for 15k kms.
