Default Bimota that was.......Bimota that is

I have always been a fan of the Rimini based Bimota.

they were Italian
they were sexy
they were fast
they were the best handlers
they had the European build
they had Japanese engines
& last of all they were made by GP racers for bikers at heart.

The name Bimota derives from the initials of the three founders, Bianchi, Morri and Tamburini, but it was the passion and engineering excellence of Tamburini that was the driving force behind the company.

If Massimo Tamburini had not crashed his Honda 750 Four at the Misano racetrack in September 1972 the legend that is now Bimota might never have existed. This gave birht to European vehicles with Japanese engines. Great victory took them ahead in GP's as well as sales charts.

Towards the end of the nineties the first all BIMOTA bike goes from the drawing board into full production, the 500 Vdue. Designed by Robbiano and engineered by Marconi, this bike was created as a Moto GP bike for the road. *Powered by a 500 cc twin-cylinder Bimota engine, customers were immediately clamouring for delivery. Such intense demand leads Bimota to start delivery before full development is completed ultimately leading to a complete recall of all bikes and a financial crisis for the company.

The model however, that characterises the genius and innovation of Pierluigi Marconi and Bimota during this period, is the hub steered TESI 1D created in various versions including the 1/D, 1/D SR, 1/D ES, 1/D EF.

sadly they lost everything and had to close their shutters when their v500due bombed badly along with their tesi technology. The v500 was supposed to be the epitome of innovation with a new 2-stroke technology. People took the bikes like crazy when it went on sale but the sudden bursts of acceleration proved to be too much risky and Bimota had to recall as huge expenses. The valves were changed and some modifications were done to the Engine but now nobody wanted the V500Due as the steam had died down. Unfortunately many few know that it really was a masterpiece and the fastest 2-stroke bike to be ever produced.

After years today Bimota is standing again.

they started by selling what ever v500 they had in stock and redesigned the tesi as tesi2d.

Excellent design, innovative features, Japanese engines(now they also use Ducati engines), the best ride and handling characteristics and awesome power

The Tesi2d is still available but sadly the v500due plug is pulled. And as my sig says "Delirio is coming".

Me too big fan of Bimota. They were the ones who taught Japanese how to build handling bikes.
Back then Jap 4 cylinder bike made crazy power but their spindly frames just could'nt handle them.
But they've used both Jap engines (mostly GSXR) as well as Ducaiti engine.
THe V-due was a huge risk. Their speciality was chassis and suspension and they decided to make engines.
That pretty much killed them. Good to hear they are back.

actually while the v500due was too wild for many people I like it. I think wilderness is the character of the a real motorbike.

And Tesi is something that is supposed to be an innovation with its hub steering. The tesi2d though looks like some incomplete bike from the front in the pics.

I love the other models though.

thats wat they call the tesi technology. Look at the bikes TESI and TESI2D and you will see a different suspension.

The Delirio looks delicious...though I cannot help but notice the resemblance between it and the Ducati Hypermotard.

Now I think Massimo Tamburini has been replaced at Ducati right? Deavrshi, can you explain to me why the similarity in designs in that case?
