Default Used Car Dealer : BrokerDalal (Andheri, Mumbai)

I have recently procured a used Honda Civic from BrokerDalal. You can read all about it here: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-d...matic-cng.html

It's a pain to find good, genuine guys who deal transparently in clean, non-accidental cars. BrokerDalal is one of them. They have 50-60 cars in their arsenal at any given point of time, which means that you can buy a car from all price brackets. They provide a test-drive and detailed documents before purchasing the car and also do a good job during delivery, valeting the car and attaching ribbons on the car, making it an almost 'new car experience'
www.brokerdalal.com

Pros:
  • Well established, young, enthusiastic, approachable chaps.
  • WILL not sell the wrong car to you.
  • Have their own office in a a fixed premise, unlike many 'brokers'.
  • A large variety to choose from.
  • Provide the papers and reveal all details of the car before selling.
  • Provide a short test drive.
  • Flexible in terms of payment.
  • Provide insurance (in my case, instant insurance --- 2 days).
  • Great valeting, good clean car.
  • Have an idea about the entire service history of the car and provide you with pointers about the next service.
  • True to their word.
  • Quick processing.
  • DELIVERY on Sunday (they kept open so I could take my car on Dad's birthday).
Website managed by Carwale itself, and they update their inventory on the web daily so one can see their entire stock online

Cons:
  • Can be difficult to find their office in Andheri if you don't know the way around.
  • Small, narrow lane so TD is just a formality.
  • Slightly high on the asking prices.

Quoting price is around 10% - 15% higher than the market value, 'not negotiable'

No doubt. They do have higher asking prices, but if you are really serious about buying a car, they most definitely negotiate. Like in my case. They were asking for 525,000 and I got it for 4,45,000

Bumping up an old thread

Just visited Broker Dalal for a used Civic. People are no doubt friendly but the asking prices are really sky high: 6.22 Lakh for a 2010 Civic S MT (not negotiable! ). That too the Civic was in just about average condition with various visible scratches inside and outside the car and a broken indicator. It was advertised as a V version and when I pointed it out it was a S I was told it must have been a different car even though the number plates of both the cars matched!

I found a similar Civic for 5L negotiable at other dealers.

I guess if you don't know much about cars and are willing to pay a big premium for nice service its a good place to buy car, otherwise there are many better deals out there.

Hey frankmehta thanks for the recommendation.

I was looking for a used Chevy Beat and shortlisted few listings on CarWale. Almost finalized on a car that was standing at Shaman but another guy beat me (pun unintended) to me by few minutes.

Saw the second car at Broker Dalal. Black Beat LS with around 15k on the ODO.

The guys Ashish and Darshan are friendly and quite knowledgeable. Was promptly given a test drive of the cars that I liked i.e. this Beat and a Punto. They had around 85-90 cars from various segments and price points.

The car was in great condition with few minor issues that were promptly sorted before delivery.

We did negotiate on the asking price and I exchanged my Spark too.

All papers were shown and everything was clean.

Overall, it was a good and smooth experience and the car was kept ready on time with ribbons too.

I will definitely recommend BrokerDalal to my friends and if I'm on the lookout for another used car then I'll surely consider going to them again.

A 5-Star rating from me!

I will not recommend Broker Dalal. The guys are very friendly and all, but we had a bad experience on a Scorpio buy for my friend. It was delivered with just some sludge sticking to the bottom of the engine instead of a proper oil change as was promised at the time of closing the deal. Suffice it to say, my friend learned about it the hard way during a highway drive.

In addition, the car had quite a few dings and other minor stuff pending which were supposed to be fixed before delivery. It was delivered without none of those things done. My friend had to send it back a couple of times for fixing all those, since none of the work supposed to be done was ever completed. After all this was fixed, it started shutting off abruptly in traffic. He finally had enough of it and sold it back to BD at a substantial loss.

My friend's old Wagon R (If I recollect right, something around 73k on the odo) was sold to them as part of the deal. We saw the same car listed with 40k something on the odo later. So speedo tampering cannot be ruled out either. Stay away from these guys. They are no better than the others.

Only difference is that they have a nice website. But websites do not trust build.

I can understand the few minor issues pending, but the shutting down in traffic and Odometer tampering are very serious in nature and removes all the trust factor which is very important for any used car dealer.

The Civic I saw about 6 months back was advertised(was updated online a few days before I visited) as driven about 30k or something but when I checked the odometer it was showing 40k+.

The interiors were pretty worn out and I doubt even the 40k was correct.

I spoke to Ashish yesterday over this negative feedback. He says he's going to reply here soon.
They're actually quite genuine people, and he denies ever clocking a car.
Let him come and clarify..

Definitely, Frank. We should hear both sides of the story.

If you note, I have referred only to the listing that we saw which had the Wagon R at a lower mileage. I have only the reference of my observations and the spoiled relation with my friend. I had recommended BD to him.

There is something wrong in the way they are operating.I'm attaching 2 links of the same car listed on 2 different web sites. On one web site it states KMS run as 40,500 and on other the same car is listed as 26469 and both listing are from Broker Dalal itself. Also the fact that they are silent what has been written here means they have nothing to say. Based on these I'm sure I'll stay away from them.

It is very safe to assume that no dealer is great or very genuine. It is always the buyer's responsibility to verify every minute things to safeguard his/her interest.

I personally prefer to interact with an individual rather than a dealer in terms of buying an old car.

I would like to quote GTO here (with a little bit of my mind in it) when I shot him a query about a used car dealer:
"There nothing like a good or bad car dealer. There are just good cars and bad cars."

In my view there are honest and not so honest used car dealers. Honest ones are in a minority. An average Joe on the street who have limited or no technical knowledge in cars, would like to deal with honest dealers to make sure he is investing his hard earned money into a good car. It is sad that now-a-days we find honest dealers as a rare species. Our forum should be the one which recognizes such dealers and name and shame the dishonest ones.

This is not probably the best place for it, but name an honest dealer you found and I am sure there will be five others who will narrate stories of unethical or malpractices from the same dealer.

Even if we assume there is an honest dealer or two, they really are an exception to the rule.
