Hi guys, my swift zdi is up for the 20k service. I called up Sai service lower Parel and the service advisor has given an estimate of 14k including mobil1 synthetic oil.

I feel this is a complete rip off for a car like swift. Can fellow bhpians who have got their 20k service done share the approximate cost and breakup.

Hi, How would you rate the brakes? I believe that is Swift's Achilles heel.

[quote=shashank.nk;3335125]After cancelling the Ecosport booking, picked up a used Swift Zdi from a fellow bhp-ian. The car was less than 2 years old (well 15 days short of being 2 years old) and had 33517 on the odo. I owned a Polo TDI for a year and half, and clocked ~12k before it was sold. I thought i'll post on how the Swift compares to the Polo, having clocked close to 3k in the Swift

AFAIK, brake issue has been observed only in the lower variants of Swift without the ABS/EBD. Since Shashank has a ZDi, it wouldn't have the brake issues that customers complain about in the Swift.

+1 to this, I have a 2012 ZXI and have covered about 23000 kms without any issues with the brakes. Never felt it lacked the stopping power, thanks to better set up in Z variants and ABS.

The brakes are acceptable, not the best-in-segment but not the worst either. My old car (Polo) felt better though, then again it was only 11k run whereas this is at 36k already.

Ideally, with mineral oil, it should be in the range of 7K. Give another 1K for inflation! NOTHING MORE it should be. May be extra 2K for synthetic oil.

Ohh. I think it's time to change the brake pads in Swift. But even when I changed mine (first set @ 35K kms and they said it could have done another 1000 kms), the bite was still good. So I am NOT sure how much fade would you feel.

Sticking on to MGP or trying out some new stuffs like Hawk brake pads or Brembo pads (advertised in our classified section). While Hawk is expensive, brembo was pretty much in the OEM price (Rs. ~2000/-)

You are being taken for a royal ride.

14K for a 20K service?! I Guess they are thinking that the service number = bill amount.

Even if synthetic oil is added worst figure should be 8-9K and mineral oil expect 7-8K unless the is a problem with the car.

Hey,
I hope that this link can be of a little help.
https://www.google.com/url?q=http://...9NER98yMgxjiLw

Me too, ended up paying some Rs.11k for 20k km service. They may force upon a plethora of useless non required stuff like:
-Side slip & brake tester charges
-Radiator flushing charge
-Putting in the costliest synthetic oil(necessarily not the best) at more than Rs.1000 a liter

If possible, ask for a breakup of service cost estimate and share it here.

Regards

O.T: Press the Service Adviser for some discount on bill, 5% discount on parts and 10% discount on labor is quite common and easy.

Any news whether Swift is getting an automatic transmission in the facelift next year? In that case, it will be my next car if launched around June 2014.
PS: Inviting suggestions for a car in 5-7L segment around that time. I do fancy auto transmission and electronic equipments to the brim!

Grand i10 Asta or i20 Sportz seems to be the best fit for your requirement.

You SHOULD mention on the job card while filling it "No extra works".

I make it a point to strike off the card for any blank places while handing it to the SA. Apart from regular service details and IF the car has a problem only that is mentioned else the standard servicing protocol.

This will keep the costs at bay and preventing them from fiddling with the car.

You fancy AT but are you looking at Petrol or Diesel?

Either wise i20 Asta if you can stretch you budget further.

I will be having short office runs (15kms max daily). Around two/three years later, I might consider locating elsewhere (50 kms max daily commute). I thought petrol should be good enough?

Personally, I haven't been a fan of Hyundai. Though the interiors (and electronics wizardry) is good, I have heard lots about highway instability and fuel in-efficiency with automatic variant. Teambhp reviews say i20 automatic petrol variant does not have sufficient power, diesel goes out of budget.

This leaves me hoping on Swift and Beat 2014 variants. Lets see what Auto Expo has to offer. In any other case, I think Swift it will be for our family already has a Beat.
