So this happened few days back. Dad was driving and couldn't notice a bent pillar and boulder on the left side.

Result: Passenger side door and running board are dented.

Should I claim insurance and get this mended by a dealer owned MASS or get it mended by a FNG without claiming insurance.
Current NCB is 35% and insurance renewal is due in a month.

Thanks in Advance guys.

Go to an FNG and get this sorted. MASS will definitely over charge and quality work won't be that great (as with my experience with them).

Don't spend on insurance to loose NCB. I don't find it worth to loose NCB

Planning to buy a swift soon but have a confusion between lxi (o) vs vxi. I personally do not like the music system provided by maruti (planning to put by myself later)and remaining features provided on vxi are not worth the extra 82k rupees here in Bangalore. Is there anything great about vxi above lxi that will help me to zero on one of them.
BTW I checked on the reviews of swift coming next year and most important message I got is this new swift is not as much driver's car as current one. This matters a lot to me since I am a long distance driver. I am plannjng for current swift but trying to optimize on lxi vs vxi based on most required features only. Having ABS and airbags is necessary and lxi (o) provides that. Remaining features, experts your opinions please.

I will pick the VXI variant above LXI just because of the tachometer.

It makes every gearshift engaging.

@Rajiv: Go for the Vxi varaint.

No doubt it is the maximum selling variant in Swift/Dzire line up plus better resale value anytime because of mass acceptance.

PS: Coming from a proud owner of early 2012 Swift Vxi.

I'll get the LXi (O). Safety features are more important.

Personally I love the looks of the current Swift over the upcoming one. So indeed I'd agree with your decision to buy one now.

As for the option, I'm a bit ill informed about the current trim configuration of the Swift. For me, if the Vxi has rear wiper + demister - I'd go for the Vxi.
If no wiper & demister - Lxi(O) rest of the features aren't worth the premium. You'll certainly get a far better and capable ICE outside. Get one with proper preouts .

For me really a rear wiper is a must on hatchbacks in the kind of rains (not heavy) and roads (instant mud on whole rear hatch and glass) that we have. One of the things that should be mandated on hatchbacks by the authorities. Its not a comfort feature but a safety necessity...

1 and 3) VXi has many useful features : Aesthetics aren't mentioned in my post; shall focus on feature which I think are important in day to day usage.
In my view what you will miss the most : Electric folding and adjusting ORVM. This is one feature that is immensely useful and makes day to day life easier. Music system you have already mentioned about your views. Next up is day and night IRVM, another feature that you will surely miss while driving at night, and more so because most other vehicles on the road usually have their high beams on. In my Wagon R LXi CNG, the IRVM is not day and night; and driving at night is very, very annoying. But this is also one thing that you can change later on IMO, not sure but most probably it would be possible.
Fog lamps can also be installed later on.

Would suggest you to get wider rubber once you get your car. I did the same after 1000 kms in my Swift VXi which reduced the crappy stock tyres value. Had I done earlier as soon as got the car, it would have given be some better value for those stock tyres. Kept the stock rims though.

2) Things would be much clear once we have the Indian version reviews, how much it has deviated from the current generation.

Lxi (O) is real value for money. I recently helped a friend (whose budget was around 6L) to buy a car . He was considering a wagon R or Celerio, but for the same money, he was able to get a bigger and more powerful machine.

Lxi (o) doesn't come with body colored mirrors and handles; but you can easily negotiate with your sales person to paint it FREE of cost for you. They will say that painting will cost 3-4K; but tell them that the real cost for the dealership to paint is less than 500 Rs. We also got MGA alloy wheels at a discounted rate and purchased brand new Swift music system from OLX at 4K (from some one who upgraded the music system in his car).

Other point to note is Lxi(O) is normally made to order and may take 2-3 months for delivery. We spoke to multiple dealerships and everyone had very limited stock of Lxi (o).

Given Swift is about to go for a model change, you can consider Dzire Lxi if your budget allows 60k increase. In EMI terms the additional burden may not be that much. Dzire LXi comes with ABS/Airbags by default

With 80K extra I can go for swift VXI that has all the features I mentioned in my post. And of course trying to avoid the sedan as nobody like it at home , mainly due to low GC (163mm for dzire??) and the looks of new dzire.

Waiting for a couple of months is not a big issue for me and will try to get the car earlier.

Not very much worried about the power mirrors since car will be driven by wife in city (95%+) and that too at limited locations, no hardly any need to fold the mirrors. Fog lamps, IRVM etc can be installed later (got it confirmed from dealer). And personally did not like the look of new upcoming Swift.

Didn't find the appropriate thread on this so posting here
I changed my brake pads in June. Now a few days earlier, I've been hearing some noise of metal rubbing against metal. Albeit at slower speeds it's super annoying and also, I don't want that noise to be there.
Checked with the garage guy who changed the pads, he tells me that the brake is touching the disc. "Disc Cutting" nahi kiya tha.
That's what he is saying. His solution is to remove the disc and smoothen the surface. I'm unaware that something like this needs to be done or is generally done. Could someone advice?

How many kms has the car run? And how many kms post brake pad change?

Can you post a few images of the rotors and the pads?

Disc Cutting/Skimming is cutting a small surface of the rotor to even out the surface and make it flat. The concentric circles are flattened.

The car has run 42,XXX KMS. The disc were changed around 20K. Post the brake change, the car has run around 1200 KMS. There are circular lines on the disc and it isn't smooth. I'll also click a few pictures if this information doesn't help
Thanks a ton. Also have checked your car and review out. It's beautiful.

Are you using OEM brake pads?

Looks like manufacturing defect or the caliper pins aren't moving freely causing the pads to bind to the rotor creating pressure on it. Can't be so bad in 42K kms.

What's the area circled in yellow?
Maruti Swift : Test Drive & Review-img_0296_01.jpg

Is that a crack or some kind of depression?
