Read on the XUV FB page that the bookings opening date would be announced next week. So looks like bookings are set to open only in the last week of Jan'12.

Yes, I heard something similar from a dealer here. However, they said they will call us once the bookings are open and probably take advance bookings as well.
What do you think, how much delivery time we can expect this time if we book during the initial days of re-open!!

Whenever the booking starts, book by paying hard cash. This will ensure your name is immediately entered into the Mahindra systems. If paying by cheque, dealers enter the booking into M&M system after the cheque clears.

I would say it will be less than 5-2% of time (considering general usage, crazy folks like me who really like to take the vehicle to a place where they know that its going to stuck for sure are exampted again).
So, if you really think that you are going to do a lot of such crazy things, buy a dedicated vehicle for that.. else just use this one for good on-road/highway purpose.

I agree that the AWD option is given with some considerations, but to me it really doesnt make much sense to go with AWD just for the sake of it and then look for opportunities to use it. If you have real need, go for Thar like vehicle. Thats just my opinion.
Completely agreed with you, I have taken my Scorpio to some roadless places (including the Pandavkada hills in Navi Mumbai) including minor stream crossings and I have never missed the 4WD option. With the kind of plastic overhangs on these vehicles I doubt I would ever like to do some extreme offroading with vehicles like Scorpio / XUV etc. and end up with some good amount of damages.

As you rightly said it is better for a enthusiast to go for a Thar or a Gypsy .

I have been given a 3 month subscription of Vogue and 9 Months for GQ magazine, courtesy Purple Club, but I would much rather have the motoring magazines.

and yes,

Does any one else got something else?

I didnt get a pass for the Expo from Purple Club also, I suspect Nitinralli that you are getting a special treatment courtesy your initial problems with the vehicle. So you better not sell the XUV now man.

You are looking at at-least 2 months once they open booking. I hear that they are planning to open the bookings in tier 2/3 cities too.

Guys, yestrday sent my XUV for its 1st service, and also to get this weird sound from the RHS wheel/suspension, apart from a small list of other niggles that I have been having with my car.

The service was done promptly and around 90% of all other niggles sorted out, with only some noise from the 3rd row or boot and the big culprit the 'khat khat' sound, still going strong. The RM called me up at 6PM last night, that after repeated tries, on adjustments on the wheel nuts, the shocker, the suspension, they are still not able to understand the reason for this. This is the second time now, the car has been returned without them able to fix this problem, and this week they had even brought the Mahindra SE to have a go, but I guess that also didnt work out.

As a result now they have put a request to Mahindra HO, to send someone to sort this problem out. Can other XUV owners here check that under hard left cornering at speed do they also get this khat sound when the pressure is put on the RHS front tyre and then again when the pressure is released. I am not sure whether it is just mine and JeepSomeday or with others as well.

Update 2: the first service cost for oil change and filter change is 1815 in Delhi, may differ at other places.

#3: when the car came back from the workshop, it has just come off the wash, so must have some excess water in some electricals/sensors and the car came with the hand brake warning light engaged, and also an alert on the Info Screen. While on other cars, I would have checked the handbrake and then the brake oil, it was much easier in the XUV as the Info screen, clearly mentioned that there is a problem "front brake pads worn-off, please visit the workshop and drive carefully", although this was just excess water creating a problem, it was good to see such a detailed analysis by the in-car computer/sensors

#4 I had inquired of the tail lamp prices, the one tail lamp assembly minus the bulbs is just a shade under 3000. Do you think that's expensive?

Is paying by credit card an option for booking?

This Khat Khat sound in most of the XUV is really alarming, pls get it checked thoroughly because I remember that during pre-launch days of XUV someone was saying that M&M is trying to fix up the noise because of DMF (same khat khat), since it is a transverse engine the sound coming from RHS may not be necessarily from suspension.
Experts may comment better.

Most dealers do accept credit cards although they charge an additional 2%.

Doesn't look so! The owner mentions the sale is because he/she is going abroad.

Yes. I came to know last week that some of the new cities would be Chandigarh, Mohali, Patiala, Kolkata and Hyderabad. Not sure how correct the info is though.

Oh, and AGWagon, I am going again tommorow for:

1. Khat khat sound from rear RHS
2. Squishing sound from front LHS suspension (like a worn out shocker, when it goes over a speedbreaker)
3. This is new - sometimes Im getting this 'grinding noise and feel' from my brakes - the sound comes from the front RHS tyre and I can feel the grinding in the brake pedal too. I remember someone had posted this issue earlier. Any clue what was wrong, how was it resolved?
