Your experience shows that no matter what car companies do, it's ultimately their dealers who will make or break their customer service perception.

I purchased a Chevrolet Beat about a year back from Autovikas and my purchase experience has been quite difference -
  • I had to negotiate hard for Rs. 6,000/- discount, but who gave discounts on a diesel car a year back?
  • They processed my no claim bonus from previous car with a smile even when I was not taking insurance from them.
  • They gave me some free goodies at the time of delivery.
  • The delivery itself was done at showroom - car was ready before I reached (except fitting of accessories).
  • The Sales guy explained me everything, took photographs etc.
  • Even though he told me that I should refuel at nearest fuel station, I reckon this is the standard practice that they have.
I have been getting my car services from Autovikas Okhla, and the service experience has also been good. I once had to visit Shiva Motors, Ghaziabad for service and even they were courteous and did the job well and on time.

On the call you received - It's a GM standard. The dealer is expected to call you and take your feedback post delivery and post every service. GM itself calls few of the customers to validate your feedback (and also if dealer is stating the truth viz a viz call made)

First they claimed 10,000 bookings, though I've spotted Chevy Sail only once in Bangalore till date, now they're offering to win a trip to Las Vegas for just test driving their car! In contrast, they offer 0 discounts and behave asif they're doing a favour on people if they deliver the car early!

Well, the fact that you bought a BEAT at GMs price makes them do all that to keep you happy ! The photos (ample time for sales staff), car being ready without accessories (having lot of stock), free goodies (chocolate box maybe ?) + free fuel (you have not mentioned how much) are pretty normal. The 6000/- discount is actually paltry, considering what you paid for the car !

For the record, you will get most of these on purchase of even a TATA Nano - my younger brother bought the special edition (alloys, ICE, et al) at 2.08 on road in Delhi in Sep 12. The dealer gave 2 lit free petrol as well, took a photo of him receiving the keys + chocolate box, etc. The dealer - Oberoi Cars, Noida.

Default GM Stops selling Sail

Quote:
General Motors India has asked its dealers to stop selling the diesel variants of the Sail saloon and Sail hatchback, suspecting problems with the 1.3-litre diesel engine used in these cars.

GM has also asked dealers to stop sales of the BSIII variant of the Tavera. This may also lead to a product recall of all diesel models of the Sail saloon and Sail hatchback manufactured over a certain period.

The voluntary recall policy, as adopted by the Indian auto industry in July last year, states that companies need to inform the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, the government and customers about any fault in its products, which may require a recall.

GM India, for now, did not say if a recall of the cars was likely. P Balendran, vice president, GM India, said, “We will come back to you with an update after thorough investigation in the coming days.”

Quite a news! I just came to this thread to check if something was wrong with the marketting of this car! This car always looked good to me. I had spotted a test mule almost an year back testing on the outskirts of Pune on highway and had liked it at first glance. I'm surprised that this one is seeing such low churn and rarely any threads of new ownership on BHP!

Now this news throws some light on the situation! If its a sales stop for some flaw, I hope GM does recall the sold cars for fixes and takes care of its customers & their safety.

Hi,
As commented by a few, I do not find a review for the Chevy SAIL. Though I do agree the motor under the hood is the same as the hatch, It would be beneficial to have a separate official review for the SAIl sedan. May I request the experts to put up an official review.
Cheers..

It seems that the production halt is due to emissions problems. Perhaps the actual emissions are more than what is publicized as well as the BS3 (Tavera) & BS4 (Sail) limits?

http://www.zigwheels.com/news-featur...-tavera/16629/

At least - good that something corrective is being done. God knows how many cars are being churned out daily from all the factories over the world that are not at all meeting the constraints..

In the later part of the article by Zigwheels, an owner has commented that his engine got seized twice and was changed by GM. He has asked for a refund, now that this has occurred a third time !

Is such poor quality possible in today's world is my question ? Has anyone come across more such incidents ?

I took delivery of my Sail UVA 1.2 LT ABS yesterday from Kun@Kondapur in Hyderabad.

Had a very good buying experience and I very happy with the way Kiran (Sales Adviser) handled it.

So far I have driven about 25 kms. Took the car to the petrol bunk and filled in 38 liters.
Then took her home for the mandatory family drive.

The car is very comfortable and I am loving it.
A detailed review thread is building up in the Assembly Line.

The best part about the car is its ability to soak up bad road. The car does suffer from poor low end torque. But since I am a rev happy driver, its not a big issue. Former Wagon R experience helps in this.

Congrats bblost on your new purchase, diesel variant still looks to be distant away for a re-entry. I also loved the interior space and legroom it offers and good suspension(all GM cars I have driven have an edge), poor pickup at lower speeds is also a common problem in all their cars, my experience with Beat, UVA, Aveo, Sail twins, Enjoy except Spark is ditto same.

The car has completed 120+ kms as of today.
The dealership had done 42 kms, the rest are mine.

The low end torque is a problem if you don't accelerate harder. I don't have such restrictions. However since the engine is so new, I am kind of babying it.

Sometime next week, I plan to take her on a small road trip. Will drive along the Hyderabad ORR from one end to another. This will add some 150 odd kms to the car and help open up the engine faster.

On a lighter note:
I bought some sweets for my team. Sent an email that I have bought a Sail UVA. Pat came the replies asking me what is it.
Had to respond with a link to the chevy website.

But when some colleagues saw the car and sat in it, they were surprised at the space and its very good nvh levels.

I would highly recommend that anyone buying a new hatchback pay a visit to the Chevy showroom.
At approximately 6.5 lakhs on road for the top end, it offers an excellent drive quality with loads of space.
Don't forget that while it looks like a hatch in terms of size its as long as the Dzire and the Amaze.
Its smaller boot (250 liters) compared to the 350+ liters of those cars means that the passenger area has gained what the boot has lost.

K&N drop in filter makes a noticeable improvement in low end torque. Two of my cars have it now.

Check with this chap who has the same engine as you

Team,

I have booked Sail U-VA LS ABS Diesel and the delivery is due next week. I am thinking of tyre upgrade. Request your suggestions on this. The car comes with Apollo accelere as OEM. Do I need to change these to Bridgestone/Michelin or stick with the original. Please suggest.

Hi Team,

I have taken the delivery of my diesel Sail U-VA LS(ABS). The experience of the delivery and the initial views on the car is a mixed bag.

The delivery got delayed due to delay in the finance processing from the showroom guys. I could not take the delivery in person and had to ask the guys to deliver the car at home.

Three misses from the showroom in having checking/inspecting the vehicle before delivery.
  1. They have screwed up the fitment of the rear parking sensor leaving the dashboard rattling.
  2. The auto lock from Autocop stopped working in less than 20 minutes of the delivery.
  3. The light in the boot is not working at all.
I had to visit the showroom for rectifying these issues. The service guy fixed these but was too quick in delivering the car to me back without even checking if everything is working fine or not. I had to call the guy twice to fix the issues properly(again a poor show on the quality and putting attention to detail of the issue)

After getting these fixed went to check the air pressure and found that one of the wheel cap not fitted properly and we cannot check/fill air to this wheel.

Coming to the car, the car is doing good. I have got seat covers done outside the showroom. Along with the seat covers I have got floor mat fitted to the entire car carpet on top of the original. I have a kid and I did not want to mess up with the OEM car carpet. The guys have given me the neck pillows and steering wheel cover as complimentary. These are prepared to match the seat covers.

I will post the detailed review along with photos later.

Thanks,
Ravikumar N
