Just did a test drive for the diesel.
The engine is really noisy while driving, though the idle noise is not much.
The interior space is surely one of the strong USP especially the back seat comfort.
The fit and finish is as expected from Honda. The price difference between S and vx models is 1 lac which is on a higher side.
The delivery period is between 1 - 2 months.
All in a all a winner in their hands. A potential desire customer has a great option alongwith!

I was waiting for Amaze since last few months. I currently own Swift VDI and was thinking that this will be a good upgrade option.

I am fine with everything but front seats, those simply spoiled the party for me.

Hopefully like Etios we will get an upgrade in new future...

Too many people complaining about engine noise.
Will the dampening help?

My take on the Amaze

1. People have an option instead of blindly going for Dzire. At least there is something which offers VFM @ low/medium trims in terms of features.

2. Shape looks like a shortened Dolphin shaped City . If that was the best seller then this should be acceptable too.

3. 1lac difference between the Petrol/Diesel seems very steep considering the differential in the diesel pricing coming down.

4. Top end VX might touch City prices. But then Honda Smartly discontinued the Corporate City, which would have been a steal looking at Amaze prices.

5. As Honda is perceived as better brand, there might be concern regarding cost of ownership. Though in recent times even Maruti is expensive in terms of labor costs and Ford/Honda offer similar or less rates.

6. Lastly, they have single minded focused on attacking the Dzire and matching it for most fronts.

Cheers.

Great pricing and apt product positioning.
Longer delivery period may hamper bookings.

Very good pricing from Honda. Maruti must be sweating, albeit a little less since Honda does not have the production capacity to fully threaten the dzire.
I guess the guys at Ford must be getting nightmares now, they should launch the ecosport soon or don't launch it at all!

Ford and the rest can learn a thing or two from Honda.

I am curious about what country will they launch this next. I agree with the fact that one must wait for at least 6 months to get the reports on the reliability but Honda can have my money if they launch this car in Europe or Americas.

Default Re: Honda Amaze launched at 4.99 Lakhs

Considering there is no ABS on the lower trims of the Petrol variant, they could have priced it somewhat lower. They have maintained a 1lac premium for all Diesel trims vis a vis the Petrol trims even though Diesel has ABS Standard on all variants but Petrol doesn't.

Doing this would have made their Petrol variant pricing more palatable. As of now, the DZire still remains king of the Petrol sub-4-meter Sedans with its better equipment, interiors and equal power and pricing as compared to Amaze. Diesel is where the Amaze can potentially hurt the Dzire the most but then that will be only if the customers find the extra engine noise within acceptable limits.

IMO, Honda has really missed a trick here, with the over-optimistic pricing, especially on the Petrol Amaze.

Test Drive already started to be offered from today in chennai and Capital Honda - dealer expects 2 - 3 months of waiting period for the ongoing bookings in chennai - crossed 200 bookings as of this afternoon in the above mentioned dealer in chennai.

I know many of you will hate me for writing this...

Top end diesel variant of Etios in Bangalore costs 50K more than the Amaze top-end diesel variant.

+ves in Etios:
Much more space
Bigger boot (almost 1.5 times)
Better NVH
Better ride quality
Better MID
CD Player in the music system
9mm increased ground clearance
Bigger tyres
Adjustale head rests
Time-tested engine

+ves of Amaze
Better Engine
In-city driveability*
Better mileage
Better image (no-taxi image)**
Lesser turning radius

* Driveability of Etios is not bad, technically Amaze seems to have better driveability (I have not driven Amaze).
** I think the taxi image of Etios is what will hit it most.

I would be good to see a detailed comparison of Amaze vs Dzire vs Etios vs Sail sedan.

I agree with your post. The thing which is most tempting in the Amaze is its 100ps power + above 25km/liter mileage. Mostly these two criteria will outshine the Etios. But on the other hand if some one needs a fuss free , comfortable and a spacious sedan then Etios is the car to choose. We have seen the D4D engine to be very much maintenance friendly on the long run. The D4D engine do more than 3-4 lack kms without much fuss. Where as the IDtec is yet to be tested on the long run.
