^^ wow.
that looks horrible.
what kind of impact was that? looks like something fall on top of it.

after seeing the pic, im beginning to question the safety rating of the car. the driver/passenger compartment is completely destroyed. Where did all those "high tensile steel" go?

Looks like it fell into a deep ditch, toppling over multiple times. Also, the rubber beading on the boot hatch seems to have melted; was it fire? Let's wait for more details to emerge.

That isn't rubber beading on boot hatch, its the glass sealant for rear hatch glass. There wasn't a fire in the back for sure.

Good to know you are satisfied with the 'Nexa experience' and the S Cross. Have booked the same from Nexa (Bimal) too.

That's the granite grey colour. It is a very very dark grey and can pass of black.

Looks like the vehicle rolled over multiple times. There is very less damage to the lower part of the vehicle but the upper half is badly damaged.

Any idea about the model and the cause of the accident? Any clue about the occupants?? Are they safe?? Does this raise any concerns on the build quality??? - I am not too sure.

Looks like the color is Granite Grey - the color closest to black.

I was showing TBHP S-cross review to my wife last night and she barely took a second to comment it looked like an overgrown Alto. Then i quickly did some editing of images taken from our own T-bhp reviews for both vehicles. I am enclosing side and rear view comparison of these two vehicles. Please note that i have edited these pictures (E.g. changed aspect ratio for Alto in rear view) to arrive at an apples to apples comparison. It was needed because for instance, SC is much wider than Alto. Decide for yourself. Dont shoot the messenger!

Comparison of Scross and Creta:

Exterior: Creta is the winner

All other areas:

interiors,
engine,
brakes,
mileage,
price (hopefully),
and drive (IMO):

SCross is the winner.

The RM is spot on. This is followed by Toyota and I think even by Ford in Ecosport. Only the areas in contact with your body are pure leather. Rest of the areas like sides and back of front seats are art leather.

The transmission hump is actually a safety feature and a beam passes through it which will result in additional safety.
It's partially true! Notice the prominent hump in VW/Skoda cars. It's there for added rigidity to the chasis. The beam passing through i am not so sure about.

Secondly, the S-cross had the prominent hump because in other countries it is available with AWD option. So the hump is needed for the rear axle and drive shaft from the front.

We still do not know about the particulars of this crash so let us not comment on the build quality and crash worthiness. The lower end of the car has taken the impact well but the roof area has totally collapsed, it seems to have rolled over multiple times. Did it happen during media drives or during a test drive being given to a prospective customer?

Not sure why you thought they felt cheap (what might you be comparing them to?) however I can vouch for the durability of these buttons. My Kizashi employs the use of the same rubber buttons on the front door handles and they have worked like a charm so far. The Kiz has been through some rough journeys as well through terrible roads, slush, rain, dust and even a bit of hail once, and as far as I can make out, the buttons haven't faded, never gotten loose, haven't changed in the way they feel or peeled off in any way. So you can rest assured that they will last.

What's up with these crossovers? First Ecosport, then Creta and now the S-Cross all have toppled over presumably during test drive. Is it that the drivers are not aware of how to drive crossovers or are there inherent safety hazards which has to be looked into by the respective manufacturers?

Surprisingly, at least as far as Ecosport is concerned (since the other two are new), there does not seem to be any further toppling issues heard. It does mean that the vehicles are being driven far beyond their threshold levels during test drives. Really irresponsible and certainly needs to be monitored carefully.
