Linea 1.4: 15.14s
Linea MJD: 15.04s
Punto 1.4: 16.58s
Punto MJD: 17.84s

Thus, Punto is slower than Linea in 0-100 kmph time. Further, even for '20-80 kmph in 3rd gear' times, Punto is marginally slower than Linea according to ACI data.
In BBC magzine they claimed 12.5 seconds for punto, seems like Autocar people were little tired while testing Punto.

there's no way the punto petrol takes 16 seconds to a hundred, atleast it doesn't seem so.

Or they must have tested 1.2 instead by mistake.

I wouldn't be surprised if that is indeed the case . It seems counter-intuitive that the Linea will be faster than the Punto in the same state of tune.

+1 to that. Perhaps these drivers need some training. They might have stalled the engine in between :-)

It is amazing that instead of admitting that Punto is slower than Linea, people are making fun of reputed and professional magazine like Autocar India

Guys, come on, Autocar drivers are professional and not that bad. Anyway, if you don't believe that, here is more proof. Look at the numbers from Overdrive Magazine (Jan 2010 issue, for example). 0-100 kmph times according to them are:

Linea 1.4: 15.2s
Linea MJD: 15.6s
Punto 1.4: 18.1s
Punto MJD: 18.7s

Let us all accept the truth (however "counter-intuitive" it seems) instead of making fun of reputed professionals.

Thanks,
-AD

Very true Doctor. ACI is a highly reputed mag with professional drivers. Infact a lot of people buy vehicles based on their recommendations. So, even though the Punto may not seem to be actually slow, but the fact is that it is quite slower than the Linea, which is more powerful than the Punto without gaining much weight.

I told you earlier that BBC Topgear had 12.5 for 1.4 Punto.
Why don't you believe Topgear instead.

Did they test Indian Punto 1.4? If they tested the UK version of 1.4 Punto, then 12.5 is true because it is a commonly known knowledge that Indian Punto is slower (because of different gear ratios, I assume) than the Punto sold in Europe with the same engine and same power specs.

There are already many experts who have pointed out this difference between the performance of the European and Indian versions of this car although both have same spec engines.

I find it hard to believe that the 1.4 Punto takes longer than the 1.2 Figo.!!! I think its best one of the 1.4 punto owners comment on this.

Is the Indian version equipped with an India-spec gearbox? AFAIK the following attachment shows the boxes available for the GP in any market

We (members of punto users group) have done a number of 0-100 runs in the punto 1.4
the average time comes out to around 14 secs. Slowest was 15.1, quickest was 13.3
these have been done over a period of time. The quickest was achieved in the recent run. This was after the 15k service.
We also have videos of the speedo which gives a fair idea about how much time it takes to reach 100. Unfortunately I cannot post them here (or for that matter anywhere) since the owner of the car does not wish to post them on an open forum.

AFAIK, the punto and the linea petrol are tuned identically, it 's difficult to accept that the linea would be faster than its lighter counterpart.
