BTW, apparently new Civic has a stiffer suspension, so you should be better off in your new Civic.

Ground Clearance:
Cruze - 165mm (with 16")
Civic - 170mm (with 15")

We already have countless number of stories of Civic bottoming out on speed breakers.. Where does it leaves for Cruze with 165mm (5mm less than that of Civic)? I didn't hear any stiff suspension setup in the discussion so far, and if it does have a soft suspension, then I think it would be crucified..
Ground clearance though mentioned as a number on the spec sheet, the tendency of the car to hit the bumps that our road throws up depend on the wheel base, suspension settings, sport package (side skirtings) etc.

So yes cruz could be in problem but not necessarily, we need proper a road test to know for sure. The results may actually surprise us and the problem may not be as acute as in the civic.

The verna could beat the 105Hp Laura which is till the Elegance variant. The top end L & K variant comes with a 140 Hp Diesel. Its more powerful than a Verna at 19 Laks.

the Laura 2.0 Diesel 140 bhp with DSG auto box is also much faster than the Cruxz with 150 bhp due to the DSG 6 speed auto that has a dual clutch setup that is bested only by the new DSG on the Audi.
Hmm...Now someone should really set up a track day between The Skoda Laura L & K and the Cruze LTZ..Interesting contest this

Bingo! Well said, Tanveer!. In fact the Embera has more room than any car south of 25 lacs, inclucing the Accord. The only competitor, methinks, is the Skoda Superb.

Speaking of 0-100runs, With stock JK vectras, and wheelspin even in second gear, I got a reading of 9.8 seconds.
The lightning quick gearshift enables this fast time.
As for trackday, I do not know how laura handles, but the chevy is a superb handler.
Even if you misjudge a turn, oversteer, and start loosing control, it easy to ease off the throttle, tap the brake, and get back in line.
She is very forgiving to the driver.
With better tires, I expect a better 0-100 time, as well as even better performance.
The power to weight ratio is amazing in this little rocket.

A diesel is a diesel always and lets not go into Fuel efficiency and the cost of petrol even. Diesel beats petrol any day on FE aspects. So lets just compare the Diesel Cruze to the Diesel Laura.

I guess you're right TSK, with better tires the performance will improve and i guess even if the Laura has the DSG box in the L&K, It will not stand a chance against the cruze's manual if the gears r shifted accurately.

As per ACI data, Cruze is faster in 0-100 runs. Much faster infact with a difference of nearly 2 secs. The workaround is to chip it as I have done to my Superb for which more details are here:
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-d...pd-diesel.html (Skoda Superb 2.0 PD Diesel)

It brings down 0-100 from 11.2 to 9.5.

A fried of mine was seriously considering the Jetta or the Civic. I have managed to wet his appetite about the Cruze, only thing is its a family of 5 and rear legroom is very important to him.

I know rear seat room should not be the criteria to choose the Cruze given how many things it's got right starting from the engine, however can anyone throw some informed light on the rear seat space between the Cruze and Civic/Jetta?

Everyone has different height and width.
Since cruze is a narrow car, seating for 5, esp with upright back seat may be an issue.
Best thing to do is that your friend goes to the dealer, and sits on the front, with family sitting at back.
If they like it, they can book it!

Chevy Cruze diesel 'missile' priced at Rs.11-12 lacs ex-showroom Delhi will pose to be the biggest challenge for other cars in this segment

Not Dzire please, thats the wierdest looking car(or is it one ?) I have ever come across
