You're right about the booster part number change. I'm getting the booster replaced and the new part no matches the one you mentioned on the new thar. The only thing that needs to be confirmed is whether it's any different than the older one or its just a parts bin refresh. Neither the M&M folks nor the ASC people talked about the new one being different and better than the legacy part.
Thanks! Strange that while the media covered the upgrades to the door handles and crossbar, the brake booster has never been mentioned anywhere.

Thanks for the details. Taking delivery today afternoon. Will take more pics.
Tandem booster mentioned so far had a different part no: 0607AB0300N (Manveet's replacement)

But Both have 26.99 dimension. If someone has access to KBX parts catalogue, we can figure out from which vehicle this part has been taken from!

Default Re: Never thought I'd buy a Mahindra Thar! My Jeep Story

Since my own thread is still in the assembly line section I will post some intresting stories about the pains faced by unprofessionalism at Mahindra ASC.
They were never trained to be ready for the THAR.

My major concerns were at the time of delivery :

Kich kich kich sound from the canopy.
Roof and Door rattles
Head light high beam focused up too high
Rear tailgate not opening with the outer handle

A later discovery :
On depressing the windshield spray jet there was water flowing into the passenger side footwell.

Oct 28 evening. First visit to the Mahindra Service Centre ( RR Auto - approved service centre )
Know the people here.

Headlight adjusted to perfection.
A dentor was called and the tailgate set to open properly.

Oct 30 second visit:

The tube from where the water was leaking fixed.
A dentor was called again, this guy was supposed to be a whiz on Thar canopies.
I had some urgent work to attend to so I took a drop to my office which is just about 1.5 KM from this service centre.

I went back there at 4 PM to see the car.
They said they have eliminated all noises and taken a test drive.
I asked if they fixed the front portion, the FRP top rubbing against the canopy, they said they have never opened the front of the canopy. A contradiction because at the time of turning in the vehicle he said he is equipped with the plastic clips which hold the canopy above the door frame.
It took them 40 minutes to issue a warranty repair invoice and gate pass.
Back on the road I discovered that the Kich Kich is still very much there.

Friday, November 1. Day before Diwali weekend.

Paid a visit to the dealerships ASC, Sterling Motors.
Discovered that half of it is Nissan ASC now.
Went it to check who the GM service was. Discovered that a guy I knwe about two years ago, Diwakar Lama is the service manager.

A service advisor was sent for a test drive. He took it to the denting section.
The next hour was spent in a meeting of the service team before they were free to attend to my vehicle.
Finally a service advisor and a mechanic sat in my Thar and we went for a test drive to a truck parking near by.
The mechanic had little idea on how to solve the problem. They attempted to tighten all nuts and bolts but the noise continued.
The service advisor got down and picked up a dirty piece of rubber tube from a truck tyre in the parking. He inserted this between the FRP plate and the inner frame of the rain channel much to my chagrin, this piece was dirty.
No difference to the kich kich kich.
We returned to the service centre.
They said a guy from Delhi would come who is a specialist in roof interiors.
A few minutes later they brought out another Red Thar from Uttarkhand that had come for service. It had some very good OE size Continental AT tyres.
They showed me that this Thar had a lining inserted where they had stuffed the rubber tubing. It is a thin tubing that comes fitted on the door frames of manny vehicles. Premier Padmini for instance and is there in the door frame of the Thar as well.
They said maybe I can buy this and fix it there the sound would go.

IN despair I left the ASC and drove towards sector 18 and 14 which has a lot of car parts shops and assecory dealers. I made enquiries at many places but to no avail. A dentor at one of the shops said some sound comes from the rod holding the FRP board in the front cabin as well. From the driver side end of the rod which goes into a welded circular tube at its end.

I was told to look at some scooter parts shops for this tube lining but did not find it.
Pretty disappointed I returned home.

At a local paan shop near my home I met a guy who owns a 2011 model Thar.

I think this is new part (modified old Thar booster or striped down Scorpio booster) because the part number is simillar to old Thar booster except last 3 digits, have a look below:

Old Thar booster part number : 0607AAB01210N
New Thar booster part number: 0607AAB01751N

Thanks,

Absolutely agree with you on this. When I gave my Thar to the ASC guys they were clueless about simple things such as how to open the bonnet or the rear door which was problematic even in my Thar !They took 3 days to do the first service and exactly after a week the car broke down.Problem was the starter motor which had gone bad and in turn broken the fly wheel !
This car is not even 6 months old and has been in the ASC for more than a week!

The 300N part no is from Scorpio 2.6 crde, not sure if the new part no is an equivalent of that. Anyway for me, if the sinking pedal syndrome is gone, I'll be more than happy. Don't really care for super slick brakes, won't put myself in those kind situations to begin with.

Default Re: Never thought I'd buy a Mahindra Thar! My Jeep Story

Continued :

Later that evening at a local mohalla Cigrette and Paan shop I met a guy who has a red Thar. I could see that all ends of his canopy were loose and the vehicle showed all tell tale signs of off road use.

I met the owner we became friends. He drove my Thar and said he never got this kich kich sound from his own.

His was a 2011 model, fitted with an aftermarket AC, alloy wheel, extra electric fan outside the radiator slats and a host of other stuff inside.

He goes on off road adventures on his own, I said I will take him through NIOC trips we do here.

He said he uses a mechanic ( denter ) in sector 18 who charges Rs. 200 to take the top off and Rs. 250 to install it back.

Now this is interesting, rates reasonable. If this guy has some experience with Thar soft tops then I might as well venture to him and get my soft top refitted again perhaps the sound will go.

We are already into a never ending Thar story - interesting!

If all this is merged and my own thread brought out it would be good to consolidate things but it is OK much of all this is in the 4x4 vehicles section.

Can you give me the details on how to go about getting this done from Mahindra? I had sent an email to mahindra customer care asking for the change to be done, however am yet to receive a response.

The process is very simple but can't guaranty success

1. Raise your complaint about brakes with M&M customer care.
2. They will give you appointment at your nearest ASC.
3. ASC people will test your brake, they will do the documented steps.
4. If you are not satisfied then raise complaint again till you get call directly from M&M company person.
5. There is one role CCM who is responsible to look after all the matters at ASC. He will test your vehicle and will do the documented steps again.

If you successfully convince them about your brake issue you will get the booster changed.

You can read story behind replacement of my Thar's booster here (Live Young, Live Free - My Mahindra Thar CRDe 4WD)

Thanks,
Vishal

Anyone with the updated Thar have a way to compare their braking versus someone whose had their tandem booster replaced with the Scorpio one?

I'm taking possession of my Thar next week and would like to know if I should push for the change in braking before I even accept it. For what I have been told I'm getting an updated Thar, but until I do a PDI I won't be sure.

Thanks.

Check the brake booster part number in PDI, if the part number is this "0607AAB01751N" then you are OK with brakes. Just this new brake booster is not sufficient, bigger vacuum tank is also required however I am not aware about the part number or if they have changed the vacuum tank as well. Check the vacuum tank part number, click photo if possible and let us know as I am also waiting for the same.

BTW don't jump on conclusion about brake and other ownership experiences just keep them as reference as everybody's experience is different with their vehicle and enjoy your Thar from the day one.

I was in same situation and excitement 11 month ago and I can totally understand how you are felling now.

Thanks,
Vishal.

Haha I've already told the sales guy that I'll be complaining about the brakes to the service center. Might as well have them escalate it now.

All jokes aside, I'm Hoping to do the PDI Tuesday so will take the pics then. Anybody else need pics of any other parts?

Sorry for the delay, I could hardly spend any time with the new jeep after I got delivery!

Mahindra Thar : Test Drive & Review-upl_1.jpg

Some images of the brake parts. I have to say that the brakes feel really good, I don't see a reason to worry. Taken her upto speeds of 80 and slowing down is not a problem, no problems in stop-go traffic too. Got to do some highway runs and see.

I don't exactly know what the vacuum tank looks like, so let me know if its not in these pics.

I had set aside a budget of 10k for brake upgrade, I think I don't have to do that now. Going for the HHT next month.

I also faced the first issue after ownership.

Complaint: A high pitch sound was coming from the front wheels, and
frequency increased with vehicle speed.

Cause: Dust cover (probably metal) located in the drive shaft or near the drive shaft is touching something. Not a major issue.

Resolution: Ramped up the vehicle. Put it in 4 wheel drive mode. Let the engine rotate the wheels. Spray rustoff lube (like wd40?) into the contact points of the wheel and the shaft.

This seems to be an issue with the new batch of vehicles. Get it corrected at delivery itself. The sound is annoying.

Hey,
Thanks for the picture however the vacuum tank is located in front of battery, right side of the engine bay.

Gr8! I am also looking for HT however still confused about design please upload photos once you fit HT.

New Thar comes with fixed flanges right? I face same issue with auto locking hubs once in while, a friend have suggested to engage 4H for 2/3 km and then disengage.
