Speedy - I have been looking forward to this update from you - thanks.
The rims and wheels look great and suit the colour.
The exhaust cans kind of spoil the clean bodyline under the car, do you plan to tuck it in behind the chasis rails or will that put too many bends in the pipe?

The exhaust routing should not be changed. It will affect performance. Also I believe changing it will take it closer to fuel lines. Dad would answer that better.

Also, I believe bookings have been shut due to a massive intake of orders.

have great fun outdoors !

Did you repaint the Thar or it looks darker in the shade ?
Did you get the alloys painted , and is it the prestige alloys ?

Really looking forward after all the mods are done .

Cheers !

Cyrus, fuel lines are on the LHS, exhaust is on the RHS

; and the most bookings and inquiries I'm told are from the Garden city.

Yes! I have seen around 6 THARs(CRDe) on road already! I had been to showroom a couple of times, yet to get a test drive! The THAR looks really cool, especially I loved the silver one!

Exactly!! That is what I meant by rerouting the exhaust. If someone tries to reroute through the LHS, it would come to close to the fuel lines. Also, "I am told" ( ) the given bends are essential and the Cat Con is crucial in the case of a diesel engine.

Hello,

Has anyone taken delivery of THAR in Bangalore??? If not from when will the delivery start???
I have booked one and the Sales rep at India Garage says they have received only 4 vehicles(4 different colors) till now (2011 model).
And they are not ready to show me the vehicle at their stockyard.

So that means, the news of only 2 Thar CRDe's sold in Bangalore was incorrect. May be it must have been 2 Thar CRDe's from one dealer and not Bangalore

Yes it is, if the user is not concerned of PUC and other stuffs he may get rid off the catcon ( I personally don't recommend this).

EDIT- @Thar, Pain in U, I am not the right guy to answer your queries, I think Vinod will be in a better position to comment.

I have a question.. If I buy the Thar, can I shift the seat a little to the left to allign it to the steering wheel? Are there any difficulties in doing so? Will the pedals then get mis-alligned? I did not like the misallignment of the seat and the wheel 1 bit and it totally put me off!

@spike, Is there an effect on power with the cat con removed? If I remember, Dad says there might be a noticeable drop.

Yes, for one vehicle all this is possible, not a big deal!

If you facilitate easy exit of exhaust gases the engine has to do lesser work in doing the same and hence more "useful" work output. It is often termed as "back pressure" which is undesirable for three main reasons:-

1. Pistons need to work harder in order to drive away the exhaust gases, this results in less useful work output and efficiency of the engine reduces.
2. If the exhaust pressure exceeds the inlet pressure some amount of gas will be leftover in the cylinders which often results in lesser amount of fresh air intake during the next suction stroke.
3. Carbon build up inside intake manifolds may occur due to "blow back" of combustion products.

This is particularly important in case of TC engines where Scavenging plays a vital role. The catcon (particulate traps), muffler etc are a sort of restriction in the exhaust system which hinders easy movement of gases. The back pressures and flow volumes are analyzed and optimized for peak performance (better drive-ability). If these are removed, I think there will not be power drop (considering the exhaust routing is proper).

Spike

PS- Lot of performance mods play around with this principle, depends whether you need low end grunt or top end whack.

While making my routine "estate" trip to Madathara this sunday morning, I saw THREE Thars; all three are DI versions and white in color.

Err...one of them was parked in Kadakkal "jeep stand" though it was registered as a private vehicle.

Cyrus/Spike - thanks for your views, if you can give me any suggestions how the exhaust pipes can be hidden from view (after removing the sidesteps) it will be much appreciated.
I reckon if the roof line can be flattened & lowered by appx 2 inches at the B pillar and the underbody can be cleaned up a bit the cosmetic appearance will be enhanced considerably.
Also, its good to hear that it is flying of the shelves.
