Default Custom Car Upholstery - Koyas (Coimbatore)

I was actually pretty surprized that there were only very few discussions on Koyas in here.

Few reasons maybe it isn't as famous as its in TN in other places. Even in Chennai not many except old time Amby owners know about this place and hence thought of sharing my experiences with Koyas. Even now I see few vehicles from Chennai going there for the interiors!

My experiences

Koyas has been around for ages. I've had the privilege to hang around there since my school days when our amby or friend/cousins cars go there for the full interior works. They are known for their material quality and workmanship but arguably the workmanship over the last few years ain't as good as it used to be in the 90's but still would rate them as the best for fabric seats.

Currently, my Amby and Palio MJD have custom koyas interiors done. No complaints on the work done on my Palio though the fit and finish of the Amby dashboard is far behind than when compared to their work done on the same car in 1995.

Koyas is the first name that come in our minds (atleast for CBE people) when we think about upholstery.

This is one reason we are forced to move towards other source. I do agree the quality of their work is undoubtedly No.1 in & around Coimbatore. But the current Cost vs Quality isn't encouraging.

Agree! But cost wise I found Koyas on par when I did for the Palio. I was charged Rs.11800 for seats and door pads. This was not add-on / ready made cover, but removed the old covers and stitched the new ones. Ready made ones cost almost same in Chennai.

Koyas is well known in Tamilnadu for sure, until previous generation. All of our Ambys went to CBE from down south once the registration done, its customary for many at least with our extended family. They charge high for sure. They live on the reputation until prev' generation and dimmed out slowly. Nowadays people getting the same workmanship locally and Chennai have many options i think this killed their business space.

But when it comes to Amby their workmanship was/is marvelous for sure. They introduced the concept of bucket seats in Amby, which is equivalent to having a 3+2 seater sofas in your car and it last really long.

Now it was the turn of my S10. I had got Sparco's for the front and went to Koyas to do the rear. My plan was to do up the rear seat and door pads in plain black but they deferred on this and rather insisted me to trust them and allow them to match the same design of the sparco's.

I was pretty worried on whether they can match up to the design. I was pretty conservative and didn't want to risk it. But they convinced me and we decided to go ahead. It was plain black for door pads and rear seat was black and white with matching stitches too in art leather and the result was fabulous
