If you're talking about 1959 then most probably you're talking about the Fiat 500 or the 600 which were rear engined like the VW Beetle and were, well, shaped like a bug if one wants to see it from that angle. There was no Fiat which was nick named the bug. Maybe the 500-600s rear engined and slopy round body would make some people think it resembles the original bug The VW Beetle, hence someone called this car the Bug too!!
Again maybe you meant the 1939 or 1949 Fiat 500 Topolino which most resembles the Bug was only made from 1957-1955. Topolino apparently, means "Little Mouse" in Italian because the lights seemed to come out of the fender looking like a mouse so it being called the Bug is not true.

This is a 1959 Fiat-500

This is a 1959 Fiat-600

This is what a 1939 Fiat-500Topolino looks like

This is what a 1949 Fiat-500 Topolino looks like

Hope it was useful

Yes gogi,i think he was referring to the fiat 500, and not the ones posted by the others. 500's are called BUG fiats here too.

No Speedy the 500 is NOT known as a Bug Fiat except maybe in the South as JayD said. World over it is called the Little Mouse. It is not even called the Bug in Mumbai or elsewhere.

In fact the BUG is associated with the VW Beetle. I don't know where people heard it for Fiats?

i am aware of the fiat 500 being called as the little mouse. i learnt it the hard way when a guy in london told me there was a little mouse in his garage and i told him why dont you get a mouse trap. he took me to the garage and showed me the car and said where do i get a mouse trap big enough to fit this.

when you say BUG the first thing in mind is the beetle not fiat.

Incidentally, my dad had wnated to buy a bug fiat (no idea which model but I'm guessing it was the 500C) from a friend in Vizag back in 1969, the car was going for around 3-4k.......however, the friend had refused saying tat as it was an old car he didnt want it to go to a known person.....so he advised my dad to save a little more & go for a 2nd hand 2-door Herald (which was the "in" thing back then) instead......

I know this is OT but I sure wish my dad had heeded his friend's advice!
