| BHPian | Any info is info, and yes i agree we have a seperate thread on the same . Moderator kindly move all these material over to VW Beetle Resto Information in the form of a new THREAD. Gathering such info in the form of a thread would be a lovely job. Lets stop arguing who's copying or not. Whatever it is, its a lovely piece of Information. And ajay. Byas has much more info to give than anyone else has as per me. His association with Beetles go back to several years back into history. No taking away any credit you deserve, You've been wonderful with all that you are sharing with us.

Sorry! Poor assumption on my part. Compiling from different sources is not an easy job, thanks for doing this. Pls do list the sources though as all of the resources have different degrees of error or omission* and which we can try to correct over time. Since many beetles in India seem to be of non-US origin, we should list these. *One example: I've found that most sources list the carb for 1600dp supers as 34PICT-3 or-4. I was sure my original carb was not a 34PICT3. After much digging it appears that the 34PICT3 was started as a running change in June 71 and prior to that it was a 31PICT3 which is closer to what I remember the carb on mine to have been. B

The rest of the numbers are a bit of a problem. In 67 there were less than a million cars made and the chassis number should only be 6 digits long and the number you have above has 7. IF we assume the first 6 are the correct digits -- that would be a June 67 car. Check under the back seat on the transmission tunnel -- the chassis number is on there as well. If the 7 was the typo and the last 6 digits are correct, then it would be a Jan or Feb car. H0 is the correct 1500 engine for a 67. Check your chassis #, let's see if we can solve this. B

| BHPian | Karl, That might be MRF or MRE, The RC is written by Govt Babu's. Either of them as per the Book. Ajay, The Wind shield wiper has two speeds for operation. The washer system works with pressure from the tire onto the washer. But that's not working(Some problem) Byas, In the Chasis Number the No., 2 seems like a star, i mistook it to the 2. The entry into RC is mentioned as 2 since the person who took the imprint might have mentioned it as 2. This one is a bit puzzler as i have been checking lot of manuals for the same. Any Body to give input on the " * " Star.

| You can ignore that *. I think it was stamped at the beginning and at the end. Here's a photo (not a Typ1 though) that shows the chassis number on a 67 VW with the * on either end. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/...plate_1967.jpg 67 owners manual -- check page 51 closely and u will see * at the start and end of the chassis number stamping TheSamba.com :: 1967 Models Owner's Manual Last edited by 71Convertible : 23rd March 2008 at 07:13. |

For your info, there used to be 3 OEM 's SWF,HELPHOS and HELLA for the washer bottles. the pressure valve was manufactured by HELPHOS germany. the washer bottles were of 3 different shapes also. depending on the years and the super beetle had a different shape
