So what exactly was the problem with this engine that caused the oil pressure to drop?

Far from it. It is very much a Padmini with an aftermarket grille and some other local bumpers and indicators.

Whooops! Sorry, 'guess the light was a bit poor so thought that was a president grille & round indicators!

Thank God it isnt a president though!

Im presuming that this is the same convertible I saw a few years ago when he was at bandra. Then it was under tin work....but unpainted. As for number I will try and phone him and get it...

GDL 2968 sure is suspect. MH14 seems strange too -- swingaxle (therefore 68 or earlier), but thick trim -- (66 or earlier), but engine lid seems to be based on a 72 or later (number of slots -- though these don't look factory crafted), 71 on rear window, 67-or earlier door handles, etc plus bumpers and trunklid are same as the GDL.

MMD seems like a 71 1302 (rear badge is wrong)

BLB has the wrong rear window (probably a local redo -- plus no padding within the top)

TN30 looks like a 71 1302 (L or LS)

Yellow TN looks like a US 71 or 72.

Well GDL 2968 belongs to Antonio Baretto of Avelar Motors Goa, very well known in the VW circle. Unfortunately he has his trademark on most of the cars he works on, and that includes these awful front lids, and a mix and match of all model years. Look what he did to this 59. Needless to say, he has obviously worked on the MH 14 D 1 car as well. I have many more *******ized bug pictures which I shall spare you from seeing!

He also has a nice 57 Oval, fortunately that car remains very original.

Those hoods are typical Avelar trademark,

Sick but yet retains the essence of Beetle's.

Look at the lovely Bus in the back ground.

Wondering when will my time come to get hold of one Bus.

Great stuff. Any further plans on the car? And how about some pics of the others in the background?

My car moved on her own strength yesterday for the first time in 20 years. Watch this space!

EDIT - the front hood handle seems fitted upside down.

Great looking car! But where is it located? In B'bay or Madras? The regn. nos. of some of the other cars in the photos besides your beetle are Madras ones.

Sorry xtreme_power to bump in OT. Karlos if you'd like will try to take a pic of my neighbours beetle done up by Avelar. Never driven but serviced every couple of months.
