Monster 1969 VW Beetle Restoration - EDIT : Delivered

Well, i need not say anything, if its my thread it has to be another VW

This Bug is restored for our T-BHP Member Dominator's friend.

When the shell came in, it looked very clean, but what lies underneath is something we unravel when restoration happens. Well, the car is going to be restored close to being Original, but with little customisation with regards to Paint shade and a new engine.

Awesome! Really looking forward to it Pawan-ji! Interesting that owner wants a new engine. Usually they prefer to keep it original. What sort of engine are you planning?

So another bug from your stable. I wonder how do you find so many old beetle's, or do the beetle's find you.

Looking forward to more updates. All the best for your restoration (though I think you dont need it as you now can even restore bugs with closed eyes).

Pavan Sir as you say, you got one more call from beetle to restore it. I think you will be called as Beetle King going forward.

I hope one day you will restore a beetle for me.

Pavan sir, what really amazes me is your ability to give it a shot on a Beetle one after the other with the same level of perfection. I don't even see many Beetles in Bangalore and you keep finding them.

Usually the Beetles call me from all over. About the Engine, it will be an Air-cooled VW engine, but a Porsche style tins, just wait for few more weeks before it lands here.

One small question - Where is this restoration being undertaken.

As usual, Namma Bengaluru

There are 3 generations of Fiat's standing at the workshop. Getting on with the topic, this is a little quick bodyshell restoration since the engine is yet to arrive, what we are doing now is, get the complete bodyshell ready, do the initial mechanicals.

Once the engine arrives, mount the engine, do the testing and other stuff, and finally paint the car in the last. I sincerely hope i get to do the finishing stuff. It all depends.

BTW those wheel rims look almost similar to the Padmini ones.

Sagar, well, you know everything does not go as per planned, The car owner wants to Finish all the initial DONKEYS JOB here with me in the workshop and do the final cosmetic finishing elsewhere. Its like you do the full cooking of a perfect Biryani with your own recipe and later let someone else do the corriander/mint garnishing and take the credit

Anyways. i am happy that the bug is going to get finished soon and hit the roads instead of getting scrapped.

The floor had too much of rust spots which the tinker began attending, the more he scraped through the floor, the more it showed out.

Maybe its high time you start charging a fee towards these type of restorations. It feels bad to hear a person doing his best to resurrect a base only to find the whole credit being given to the make up man for that astonishing finish in the end.

BTW that Biryani example was mouthwatering, alas can't eat it till the 2nd. :P

Charge for restoration, Sagar, i dont think so i will ever do that.

Work on the car continued at a brisk pace, within 2 weeks the tinker had finished all his work and the painter had looked at each and every corner of the car for perfection.

The shell is in a perfect condition and will get its final surfacer (GLASURIT) in a day or 2, and hopefully the mechanic will come over to fit all the mechanical components of the car before delivery.

Yes Nilesh, this is the New tinker and of-course the Kombi will be moved here the coming week. As they say, make hay when sun shines, i dont want to miss an opportunity of getting quality work on the VW's

Getting back to the topic, the Beetle surely is coming along really nice, i cant praise the painter and the team more on the kind of progress made.I am unable to see a flaw and the most amazing thing is this guy makes it look so simple.

firstly congrats on yet another one!
Is the red the final finish coat? and so.. now what? Will it come back to you after painting, for the Mechanicals?
I am a little confused after seeing the pictures and reading through the posts.
