Dear Fintail - hahaha, you want to recreate my 1977 model rally car MMY43? Here you go! Yes, it had the stage 1 piper camshaft, twin solex carburettors with balancer, ported and polished head, 69.5 mm diameter domed pistons, lighter flywheel, offset rockers, 7mm diameter valves, optimized valve stems, 3.9:1 axle ratio and 13" tires on 4.5J wheel rims (4.1:1 option was also there) and 3-2-1 (not 4-1) exhaust system with 14 times engine displacement optimized expansion chamber and muffler! (zero muffling drops the power)! Also, I had reinforced suspension setup and reinforcement bars inside the engine compartment. Very fast!

The second photograph was taken when I did Delhi-Mumbai non-stop in 30 minutes less than what the Rajdhani Express used to take (17 hours). There were no expressways then, and no tolls too!

Enjoy! .

Once stripped of paint, we found that she will require new FLOOR PANS, FRONT SIDE FENDERS, WHEEL WELLS & NEW SKIN UNDER SIDE PATTI LINE. Rationally speaking, about 50% of the car required new metal.

For floor pans, side fenders & wheel wells & rear boot plate we got machine pressed custom pieces.
The custom built pieces were fitted in like LEGO but the real challenge lay in hand-beaten tin work and slowly & steadily she started coming into her own.
The ugly taillight mods had to be closed and fuel filler EYE was redone too.
The niches on rain gutter, window's edges, windshield edges, under the trunk (section around fuel tank, required special attention.

Sonuji, You are really lucky to have such skilled & patient denters in your locality. Very rare to find such skills these days. A depression / seam on the lower half of the doors have come out really wonderful.

Couldn't help notice the Ferrari sticker on the bulkhead.

Lovely thread, makes a great read. A friend of mine used to mod Fiat's, one of his projects included fitting a 1.8 Isuzu petrol in a one

It required extensive mods to the engine bay, including an extended firewall. The mod was done years ago in Ooty. Will try and get further details.

Not many know of him by name, because he always decided to lay low without bragging. For those who know Collin Lillywhite from Ooty and Jairam from Coimbatore, it was a project that they both shared.

Aadhi

Immense amount of work there, and amazing how well and how relatively easily it can be done in India. To try and do this job in N. America would cost easily ten times the finished value of the car. Looks like it's coming along great! As many others, eager to see the finished product.

Dear Sonu - if you want this car to be a real street racer, you can try to put the 118NE driveline, including the NISSAN engine. I had made the prototype, but it never made it into production. CP1 (critical path 1) was to incorporate the redesigned steering tie rods which were moved backwards by 15mm to provide working clearance at the rear side of the NISSAN cylinder head. Everything came in production in 1998 model cars but the NISSAN engine was never productionized, so if you can lay your hands on a 1997 or later Padmini S1 which has the re-engineered steering tie rods and the bulkhead, you can get away with an engineered solution. CP2 is the redesigned sump with the oil suction pipe, this can be done on a one piece basis. The mechanical pump will have to go as it fouls the suspension, so the car will run on the electronic fuel pump. Cable operated accelerator control system can be adapted from the S1. Exhaust system gets routed on the LH side so the fuel tank moves towards the RH side in the Y axis. Fuel return line to be provided.

All drawings were made. Alas! . There is a huge difference between offering engineered solutions and doing "everything else"!

Hi Sonu,

I'm not really a Fiat guy, but I do understand why someone would want two of the same thing (see my signature :P).

Moving on, the body restoration seems to be coming along very well. Are you going to go for a "classic" colour like a beige or something modern?

Subscribing to your thread. Very keen to see what the final outcome is!

Any pictures? I assume you're using the SoundLink Mini. It seems like a very good idea for those on a budget.

Awesome project indeed..we have one aging in our backyard..now this project has really inspired me to get it going.

Meanwhile my Premier 118NE (mod with Toyota diesel 1N engine) is doing well.

Sir, I will be tuned to this thread.

My most basic requirement was powerful engine & AC:

OLD ENGINE & GB:
Hyper Fiat 1100 - Restoration & Mods of WMJ 333-imag0376.jpg
Hyper Fiat 1100 - Restoration & Mods of WMJ 333-imag0501.jpg

I wanted to experiment with MG413W engine of GYPSY but it required major alternations in engine bay. Still I kept on pursuing that dream. What could be better than having an MPFI engine under the hood. But after checking every garage and basically my trusted 70 year old mechanic (who takes care of my other cars and who was trained on Fiats in his young days), I realized I was pursuing a foolish dream. The engines were available but no guarantee on their AS-IS-WHERE-IS condition. Another problem was ECU & MPFI wiring harness.

I spoke, called, texted, WhatsApp'd each and every Fiatian that I knew and every person pointed me to S1 engine being my best bet.
Thence started the hunt for S1 engine.
The hunt began from CST-Road in Kurla to Chor Bazaar, Bangalore markets and some Delhi shops too. Some gave ridiculous prices while others came up with screwed up engines. Around mid-April we found a guy in Pune who promised to get me a clean engine + gb + complete brake's setup + rear differential, in short everything that ran the car.
Come end-April, everything arrived and we started opening up the new arrivals. On opening up the engine we found that the head required replacement (additional expenses) but then we decided that in case we are plonking new head, why not go for over-sized pistons to get few more extra punches.

So I went shopping at Shetty's:

Very nice and awesome job on the Millicento bro. And thanks for the big help on the elusive part for me.

Frankly speaking this is stuff many had been thinking off doing - body of Fiat and modern day / souped up mechanicals. You have done it. Now show us the rest of the car.

I have few suggestion for you (looking at the outcome) -

1.) Get Electronic Ignition for her, will give less headache and stronger spark.

2.) Increase the comp ratio, but need to keep in mind the thermal and mechanical limitations.

3.) Install twin weber carb and a different cam setup

4.) Have a free flow exhaust system

5.) Lower her and have stiffer suspension

6.) Lastly better brakes

But this is just me, hope you like these pointers.

Dear Sonu - I presume you are going to change the sub-frame also, the front cross member has rusted through. If the rest of the sub-frame is good, only the front cross member can be replaced, it is still available at old-gen shops in Mumbai.

Best regards,

Dear Dr. Behram,

If one is making a souped up Fiat 1100, what are the pointers that you can give us. I and many others are interested to do up one. What would you reccomend us to do. This would be a much loved thing to discuss about.

Once the tin work was done from topside, it was time to check her under belly and finish off the welding joints.
The rear suspension springs still had enough life in them, so we decided to keep them and only change shock absorbers.
Gabriel Shock Absorber (1200 per). All four SA were changed.
The front chassis was also changed with better refurbished one.
2nd Stage: Will be going for Composite Fibre Single Leaf Suspension at rear.

Since most of us do not get chance to really go under our cars, posting here some closeups of suspension system for convenience/knowledge of FIATIANS.

Sir, the above post shall answer your query. New radiator was custom made for car.

1.) Get Electronic Ignition for her, will give less headache and stronger spark.
I am working on it. Kiran Bhide holds the key. Any other pointer are welcome.

2.) Increase the comp ratio, but need to keep in mind the thermal and mechanical limitations.
Stage 2, this will/can be done once she is home & running on present setup.
I want to get her home ASAP.

3.) Install twin weber carb and a different cam setup
CAMSHAFT of course but for WEBER SETUP, I cannot comment as am not sure if I will even get good WEBER CARBS and also find someone who would ready to dedicate the time required for install and testing.
Any pointer are welcome.

4.) Have a free flow exhaust system.
As I type this post, AUTOMECH is working on it. It will be performance based exhaust.

5.) Lower her and have stiffer suspension.
OK

6.) Lastly better brakes
The entire braking system is being revamped to S1 with oversize pads at rear & normal at front. Entire braking setup is purchased brand new off-the-shelf including the brake drums, lines, pads, cylinders (master & Slaves) et all. Stay tuned.

Regards-Sonu

Excellent effort Sonu & Team (am I right ). The replacement of front chassis is really a good move. It will make sure the vibrations are very minimal.
