Default Re: Restoration: Renewing my Rajdoot 175 (1972 Model)

Today did some more work on my bike.

Installed following assemblies and sub assemblies:-

1. Rear swing arm Assembly:-

Sub assemblies- Bushing and Bushing Cover, Bushing spacing, axle(With oil lubrication mechanism), washer and nut.

Initially I tried to insert bushing myself but its cover broke off, while purchasing new piece the dealer suggested me to get it pressed on a hydraulic press. I was going to get it pressed when my brother stopped me and did the pressing himself. That dealer said only on press this could happen but my brother did it with hands using wooden mallet (It's an advantage when you have an engineer at your disposal).
Finally attached it to chassis.

2. Stand, footrest and engine foundation Assembly setup

We had to use abrasive to fit it but it must be kept in mind that exact position of foundation as if it not set properly, engine sprocket will not be straight and would take a lot of setting to get the chain work properly.

3. Rear wheel coupler assembly setup

This is one of the most crucial setup, one has to do it with precision. Parts needed for it are Driven sprocket 47teeth,Half axle Coupler, Dampener rubber, nut and bolts, NRB bearing 6204, 2 Locks External and 1 Internal , Oil seal M11 47 24 10 B.

First clean the Coupler with petrol or thinner and after it dries Insert the bearing. Now grease the bearing by applying pressure. Insert locks on both sides of bearing. now Insert Oil seal. There after The Half axle put lock over it after it passes through bearing.

4. Pin-striping:-
Applied Paint over the masking done for pinstripes and let it rest for 12 hrs. Thereafter applied two coats of Clear lacquer in gap of 15-20 min.

There was some issues in masking of the oil tank. Pointed by my mom and rightly so. Just corrected it.
Top picture- after correction.

Excellent thread, numerouno.no1.

I have been following your thread from the beginning. And it is a pleasure to see your patience and commitment in restoring the bike back to its original state. Wish all restorations were done this way!

Original parts fit perfectly well. Very rate items, especially the genuine rubber gasket.

Loved going through your thread, Numerouno. My dad too owned a Rajdoot, a 1965 model with the original Polish engine and I literally grew up on it in Pune, till about 1981, when I came to Mumbai for further studies. He sold it to his mechanic a couple of years ago, when age caught up with him. It was most amusing when in the later years young heroes on their fancy bikes would stop him to ask, "Uncle, what kind of bike is that?". Enjoy your resurrected beauty.

I am also expecting this kind of reaction. When my dad used to drive most people used to see the front wheel side, its front shockers is really out of world stuff.

Yes, that Earle's fork suspension system was really great at soaking up the bumps and potholes, much better than the straight-line shocks found on all other bikes.

Dear FarPatel - hello to you. Is your father's name Mr. Rumi Patel? Was your Rajdoot's registration number MRZ693?

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Hello Behramji, yes, you're right and we had met in our society parking lot, maybe a couple of years ago, where I had shown you my LTD sticker. Good to hear from you again. Cheers.

Dear Farokh - its so nice to catch up once again. Do let me know when you are in Pune next time (I guess will know when I see your car standing behind your father's blue Maruti!) .

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar
