OH ok I asked coz there was a similar, yellow, 66 beetle with similar missing parts and a fiat carb for sale for some time. It just went to Bangalore last week. Anyways will lookout for your parts here if any are available.
All the best in your effort.

is there any way i could get the original engine no of a beetle from the sl no of the car... because i suspect my car might have had its original engine
replaced... and i am not sure of current engines capacity
The Birth certificate from the Wolfsburg museum used to list both chassis # and engine #, but they don't list the engine # anymore to prevent fraud. Post your engine #, we should be able to find out if it is indeed a '66 engine or was changed out to a later engine. If it is a '66 engine, chances are it is the original.

BTW, [url]www.thesamba.com[\url] is a great source of info on these cars.

Also, look at your distributor and note down the number on the side of the distributor -- post it here. This will aid selecting the right carb and could help determine whether it is the right type dizzy.

This is my microbus's engine

As you can see, it's the same engine as the beetle!

According to my Haynes manual (my Bentley is for 71 on), the '66 engine should start with an FO. Are u sure the area you are reading has been really cleaned and the "F" has not been covered up by grime?

The engines before 66 (that is Jul 65 and earlier as MY 66 starts in Aug 65) had no alphabet preceding the number, but it started with a number code. So, having neither is strange.

Carbug,
Is it possible the first digit is not 0 but O? The 64 Type 2 (microbus) engine started with the "O" code. It is a 1500cc engine, but this specific year is considered a poor engine design.

Also, is it possible that the first digit is a "D" not a "0"? That would make it a 1966 1200cc engine from around the 3rd week of Aug 1965. If you post your Chassis number, we can see if the chassis number is also from around that date.

See...

Hey Carbug,

Many congratulations on your new acquisition. I may just have a spare carb, pretty sure I had bought one when I was in Australia - 28 PICT is the one which will go with your bug.

Give me a shout if you don't hear from me in next couple of days or PM me.

Good luck with the same.

Cheers,
Sid
