It looks like a 1964 manufactured engine, you find out the cc and if it is 1200cc it is a bug engine, if 1500cc then it is a bus engine.

This is indeed a beetle engine of late 64 to early 65 models. This engine must have been used in Bugs with Chassis no beginning with 115 and an HP of 36. No chance of a bus engine as bus engines never used the 9 series. This incidentally was the last of the "Only Numeric" series. After this all engines use Alpha Numeric Codes.

Have you managed to locate a spare engine??

Sirjee, are you referring to the Top gear?

Look at the bottom picture and confirm.

yepp, actually in one of my friends car a 65 bug was fitted with a gypsy engine the day he got,as we have managed to overhaul the original engine, the shaft has been modified as per gypsy clutch set, hence needs to be reversed accordingly

Inderpal Ji, this is called the input shaft. It would look something like the one in the pic below. Since you say that the car had a gypsy engine fitted to it, there are chances that the length of the shaft has been modified as well for the mateing of the engine to the original VW gearbox. There is no short cut to this and you would have to open the gearbox.I would suggest that you buy a new Input shaft rather than trying to make changes on the existing one. You could check what the length should be either by measuring it from another gearbox or lookin it up on the net and then you would know if it has been changed or not.

Sir, to avoid all that double job, very simple.

Replace with a different gearbox.
